📍 Karamlesh — ܟܪܡܠܫ | Nineveh Governorate, Iraq
In honor of Chaldean American Month, we’re highlighting the villages that shape our heritage.
Located in the Nineveh Plains of northern Iraq, Karamlesh is one of the region’s oldest Chaldean towns, with roots tracing back to the ancient city of Kar-Mullissi — meaning “the city of Mullissu” in Akkadian.
For generations, Karamlesh stood as a center of faith, culture, and community. Like many villages across the Nineveh Plains, it faced immense destruction during the ISIS occupation, forcing families to flee their homeland. Today, its people continue the journey of rebuilding their homes, churches, and traditions with resilience and hope.
Karamlesh remains a powerful symbol of the enduring spirit of the Chaldean people and our connection to our ancestral homeland.
Follow along all month as we honor our history, culture, and community—one village at a time.
