Sterling firefighters were called to Worcester Road in the area of Greenland Rd for a motor vehicle fire this morning. Thankfully there were no injuries and the fire was quickly extinguished

As the 25th Anniversary nears of the attacks of September 11th, 2001, the Sterling Fire Department is raising funds through a custom shirt sale to support the Tunnels to Towers Foundation.

The Tunnels to Towers Foundation is a non-profit organization founded in memorial of FDNY firefighter Stephen Siller, who was killed on 9/11. The foundation builds mortgage-free smart homes for catastrophically injured veterans and first responders, including those killed in the line of duty.

The limited edition shirt features a tribute to the 343 first responders who tragically lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

We have partnered with Ricky’s Sales & Service to create the shirts and provide an online store, featuring a range of sizes.

Please be sure to place your orders before Friday, August 21st to have your shirt ready on or before September 11, 2026.

It’s been a busy week for your Sterling firefighters. Since last Friday the SFD has responded to 64 calls for service which included multiple serious medical calls, motor vehicle accidents, fire alarm activations and two building fires-a 2nd alarm fire in Paxton (pictured) and a 2nd Alarm in Bolton

Today the Sterling Firefighters Memorial was removed from the town common to its new home in the Memorial Park behind the Fire Station. In 1977, the stone was donated by Frank Lanciani, who was a longtime Sterling Firefighter, to be used as a permanent memorial for all deceased Sterling firefighters. The monument came from a blacksmith shop just outside the town center where it was used as a tool to help forge the iron bands that went around wooden wagon wheels. On May 29, 1977 the stone was dedicated and recognized for the first time during the Memorial Day ceremony that was held the next day. Many thanks to the Sterling DPW crew for their hard work to extract it out from the common and give it a respectable new home amongst the other monuments in Memorial Park.

Sterling firefighters and Sterling Police Department were called this morning for a 2 car MVA in the area of 48 Worcester Road. Even though it was a high speed collision, no occupants were seriously injured and none required transport to the hospital thanks to seatbelt use and airbag deployments.

In a rare occurrence, Engine 4 was dispatched to Ayer yesterday afternoon to cover their station on the 6th Alarm. We are always happy to assist our mutual aid partners, both near and a bit further away

This afternoon at approximately 4:20 pm, the Ayer Fire Department was dispatched to 15 Columbia Street for a building fire. Engine 2 arrived on scene in under two minutes and found heavy fire showing from a large, multi-family structure. Second and Third Alarms for additional personnel and apparatus were rapidly requested. Crews from multiple communities aggressively attacked heavy fire in the attic and roof area of the structure. Ultimately, multiple master streams were required to knock down the heavy fire before crews could re-enter the structure to complete extinguishment and overhaul. Due to the extremely hot and humid weather, a total of Six Alarms were struck to provide fresh personnel to relieve the earlier arriving crews.

All occupants of the building are displaced and the building is uninhabitable. There were no injuries to people, but several pets remain unaccounted for.

The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation by members of this department in cooperation with investigators from the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

Our thoughts are with our brothers and sisters of the Fitchburg Fire Department, the Roy family and all who knew and loved PJ. A huge loss for the fire service in Central MA and beyond.
