We are thrilled to introduce our Director of Outreach, who has been vital in the movement to get Sterling Illinois Dementia Friendly!! 💜

Meet Teri Shaw, Dementia Champion for Whiteside County Senior Center!

I am the outreach Director for the Whiteside County Senior Center. My role allows me to connect, seniors local programs and resources that support independence, health, and overall well-being. One of the most rewarding aspects of my position is helping seniors navigate the complexities of Medicare so they can make informed decisions about their healthcare. I believe that every person deserves to feel valued, respected, connected, and supported.

I am a SHIP(Medicare) counselor, certified Resource Specialist with Informed USA, and a support group facilitator and educator for the Alzheimer’s Association. I am passionate about promoting dementia, awareness, and advocating for dignity, respect, and compassion for individuals living with dementia and their families. I strive to create a greater awareness and understanding of dementia while helping families navigate the challenges that come with memory loss. Through education, connection, and support, I hope to make a positive difference in the lives of individuals and families in our community.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with family, and I have recently taken a bike riding- “ We’ll see how that goes!” I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of the Dementia Friendly, Sterling Action Team and look forward to seeing the positive difference initiate can make in our community!
