NATIONAL POLICE WEEK MAY 11TH – MAY 17TH

Each May, our nation comes together to honor the courage, sacrifice, and dedication of law enforcement officers. Originally established by presidential proclamation President John F. Kennedy in 1962, National Police Week includes Peace Officers Memorial Day on May 15th and a week of observances recognizing officers who given their lives in the line of duty, as well as those who continue to serve and protect our communities with dedication and courage.

National Police week is both a time of solemn remembrance and a celebration of the men and women who serve with integrity and bravery every day. It reminds us that behind every badge is a story of service, sacrifice, and family.

The Sterling Police Department thanks our officers and fellow local law enforcement for their hard work, selflessness, and unwavering dedication to our community. You put your lives on the line to keep us safe, and we cannot thank you enough.

STERLING POLICE DEPARTMENT TAKES ON THE STERLING COMETS IN THE ANNUAL “BASKETBALL AGAINST THE BADGES” EVENT

Monday, March 9th, members of the Sterling Police Department participated in the annual “Basketball Against the Badges” event with our local Special Olympics athletes, the Sterling Comets in front of a packed house at the Bank of Colorado Event Center. Along with the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, Colorado State Patrol, and Sterling Fire Department, we tried our best to upset the Comets in one of the fiercest competitions we’ve seen in years. Although we gave it our all, the Sterling Comets came out with the victory…AGAIN winning 50-44. There were tons of smiles, laughter, loads of cheering from the crowd, and of course the occasional trash-talk between the two teams. The singing of the National Anthem opened the event by the Windsong Chorus along with a dance performance from Melissa’s School of Dance, and a special halftime performance by the Northeastern Dance Academy. Thank you to NJC for the use of the Bank of Colorado Event Center, the Comet coaches, Jason Santomaso & Jared Sonnenberg, Chris “Bull” Brom & Don Sailing for attempting humor as our emcee’s, and to Randy Kirkwood, Spencer Vierow, and Brent Fiscus for their questionable calls. A very special thank you to the Sterling Comets for the opportunity to participate in yet another amazing event and allowing us to continue to foster important and wonderful relationships with you all.
