Happy Earth Day from Cascades Library! 🌱🌎❤️ We decided to take a little walk around the library and photograph the beautiful signs of Spring. There was even a friendly "little" bee hovering nearby. Can you spot him in the picture of our curbside sign? 🐝
Share how you will celebrate the wonders of nature on Earth Day. Have a lovely day!

Christine can't wait to start the new biography of author Gary Paulsen, "Gone To The Woods: Surviving a Lost Childhood." She says:

"Gary Paulsen has always been a top favorite author of mine since I first read 'Hatchet.' I love being outdoors and he incorporates nature into many of his books. I have read other biographies of his, but it seems that this one will dig a bit deeper into his childhood. I am looking forward to learning more about Gary Paulsen and how his life events led him to write the books he did." https://bit.ly/2P9RN00

It is Sally's turn to share one of her new faves with us in our "What We Are Reading" series.
"I just finished 'The Night Circus' by Erin Morgenstern for my book club. I loved it! The best word I can use to describe it is magical. And in this book, magic is real, but I also found the writing to be magical. The descriptions made me wish I could climb inside the book and stay there for a while — visit the circus, attend a Midnight Dinner, meet the characters. I stayed up until 3:30 a.m. to finish it, because I didn’t want to spoil the magic. If you give it a try, I hope you experience that feeling too!" https://bit.ly/3vQjawq

"What We Are Reading" - Saturday edition. 📖
Mary Anne, being a December baby, likes to celebrate the holiday season year round. "The Afterlife of Holly Chase" by Cynthia Hand is a modern-day retelling of a Christmas classic, with a twist. The story of "A Christmas Carol" has been played through once a year to give one "Scrooge" a last chance to change their ways, and their life. But this year, what happens if the Scrooge refuses to listen? Will this be her only chance at redemption? And if three ghosts couldn't make her change, what possibly could? A Christmas story that can be enjoyed anytime of year. A story of loss, love, and possibly third chances. If you liked "Scrooged," "A Muppet Christmas Carol" or Hallmark Christmas movies, this book is for you.

Theresa found a mystery book she would like to recommend for our next "What We Are Reading" post! 🕵️‍♀️🕵️‍♀️
"Murder at the Mena House" by Erica Ruth Neubauer whisks the reader to 1920s Egypt, creating a palpable sense of time and place in this historical murder mystery that will appeal to fans of Agatha Christie, Rhys Bowen, and Kerry Greenwood. In the collection of well-heeled international guests at the Mena House Hotel in Cairo, the author has drawn delightful characters that are full of surprises. Published in 2020, this is the first book in a new series by Neubauer, with the follow-up, "Murder at Wedgefield Manor," due out later this month. Happy reading!
Both print and electronic copies are available: https://bit.ly/2OgsuZA

"What We Are Reading!" Aaron has a suggestion for all you fantasy fans out there:

“I just finished reading 'The Binding' by Bridget Collins, which is classified as a fantasy novel with a strong, emotionally powerful romantic plotline. The book tells the story of Emmett Farmer, who is apprenticed against his will to an old woman named Seredith who works as a bookbinder. Books in this universe, however, serve an entirely different purpose than in ours. The secrets they contain will become the primary source of conflict in the novel as Emmett learns the art, horror, and magic of bookbinding and discovers a book hidden by his own tutor with his name on it. This book is technically classified as an adult fiction novel, but I think it can just as easily be read by a high school audience as well. The book contains magic which makes it a fantasy novel, but has a lot of Victorian and otherwise historical elements in it as well that will resonate with historical fiction readers. If you like any of these themes in literature, as well as storylines with LGBT representation, you will like 'The Binding.'”

Put the book on hold: https://bit.ly/30bDk5m

Will the Cascades library be hosting AARP for tax preparation this year?
I love coming here to study while waiting on my daughter to finish class but tonight there was a bunch of screaming and banging noises that made it extremely difficult to do.
Two questions: 1) Is there any other way to access the "other books you might like" feature that pops up while checking out? I have so much trouble making a list ahead of going to the library for my toddler and preschooler and end up neglecting their Lego table shenanigans while I peruse the shelves. 2) Could we build a weekly/monthly subscription box style service where we could have a book, or a few books if children's books, pulled and ready in holds based on our previously checked out books? Maybe a youth organization could spearhead it for a donated fee as a community service or something?
My 4 year old, Oliver, would like to know the library's birthday. He would like to write a book as a gift. 📗🎁
Ahoy Virginia! Looking forward to a mayhem and mirth-filled good time today, me hearties! www.mypirateschool.com
Tonight I will be breakdancing at the Cascades Library Teen Night. Come join me!
Excited to speak about one of my favorite topics and have our first workshop coming to Loundoun County! Join me and learn more on this Saturday at 1:30pm. Hope to see you there!
Are you doing Indie author day this year?
Great library! The staff are always friendly and helpful, the collection is filled with my favorite books, and the building has great space for studying or just reading. My favorite of all the Loudoun libraries.
