We asked a few of the authors appearing at our Eat Local Read Local festival to share what inspired them to write. The results were sensational! Click though the photos to discover their stories — and then make a plan to attend this free celebration of Loudoun authors Saturday at Cascades Library.
Love a good backstory? Us too. Here are a few gems from the upcoming Eat Local Read Local festival. 💎

Laura Savino spent her career as an international airline pilot, flying planes as tiny as a car and widebody aircraft larger than a football field.

Suzi Weinert went from writing a one-page story about a real-life scary experience at a garage sale to a four-book series that was adapted into 15 Hallmark made-for-TV series. (She still enthusiastically attends garage sales!)

Karen Schaufeld, Author was diagnosed with scarlet fever in the second grade and spent two weeks isolated in her room devouring books. The experience ultimately led to her path as an author.

John L. French is a retired crime scene supervisor with 40 years’ experience who has seen his fair share of murders, shootings and serious assaults. He started writing fiction to take a break from the realities of his job.

Catch these fascinating writers and many more Saturday, Oct. 15, at Cascades Library. Details: library.loudoun.gov/ELRL
Have you added the Eat Local Read Local yearly event to your calendars yet. Hosted by Cascades Library Loudoun County Public Library featuring local authors! Oct 15th @ 11 AM -1 PM. Can't wait to catch up with some old friends and make some new ones!
Could you collaborate creatively with someone you love? These duos from our upcoming Eat Local Read Local festival at Cascades Library make it look effortless!

Among the festival’s 70+ local authors are two mother-daughter teams. Beverly and Alyssa Samuel’s collaboration is motivated by a desire to help children embrace diversity, equity and inclusion in a fun way, while Sharon Lynn Brown and Heather Carlson Johnson set out to inspire children and parents to engage with each other and talk about values.

Two friends, Karen Burton and Deirdre Shupe, combined their skills in illustration and writing to compose an endearing art book about friendship that aims to help others express gratitude for the people in their lives.

And husband-and-wife team Paul Awad and Kathryn O’Sullivan have collaborated on feature and documentary films, screenplays and web series. Their first joint-effort novel is a sci-fi adventure featuring dual timelines and a frantic race to save humankind.

What can we say? Some things are just better together.

Catch these creative pairs and many more local authors Saturday, Oct. 15, at Cascades Library. Details: library.loudoun.gov/ELRL
The countdown is on for the Eat Local Read Local festival! Serving up entertainment – for both young and old – are rockers Felix Pickles and balloon-artist extraordinaire Tom Lilly. Catch them along with 70+ local authors at Cascades Library Saturday, Oct. 15.
