Bomb Squad Operations at Special Events - Part 2
Maintaining the safety and integrity of our open society is vital to our nation, especially at potentially soft targets, large mass gatherings, and symbolic events. Terrorists and other violent actors have plotted against or attacked such places using simple, low-cost methods with minimal identifiable indicators. These special events, which can be national, regional, or community activities like concerts, major sporting events, or political rallies, require additional planning, prevention, and response services to ensure public safety. It is critical to understand the threat, develop operational and contingency plans, and conduct special event-specific training to prevent and respond to threats and incidents targeting special events. This two-part webinar will discuss the threat, review historical attack methodology, and discuss best practices and other considerations for planning, preparation, training, training, operations, and response.

Our Panelist for this Webinar will be Mr. Steve Miller.

Had the pleasure of attending Graduation for Class 25420S and our intern Chris from several years back. Our COO Jeff David had the honor of pinning on Chris' crab. First duty station? Kadena! Might just have to arrange another visit to Okinawa.

🎤 Webinar Wednesdays are back! 🎤

Join us for a webinar on Feb 25, 2026 at 12:00 PM EST, featuring ATF Special Agent (ret) Tina Sherrow Bayless.

On September 1, 2006, a bomb exploded in the Hinsdale, IL BNSF Railway Train Station. Two weeks later, another device exploded outside the Salt Lake City Public Library in Salt Lake City, Utah. In Part One, scheduled for February 25, 2026, Tina Sherrow Bayless will discuss the Hinsdale bombing and Hinsdale threat letter; end the episode talking about leads at the time (Gerald Kuchna, a red herring) and receiving a call from the SLC office about a bombing in Utah and the SLC office having an arrest warrant in the AOR for the ATF Downers Grove Office.

Get in your nominations!

We are pleased to announce that nominations are now open for the Roger Goad and Ron Purvis Memorial Awards!

The Roger Goad Memorial Award may be awarded each year to a member of IABTI who has done the most to further the aims and goals of the IABTI or who, by their actions, has brought great credit to the profession and, thereby, to IABTI.

The Ron Purvis Memorial Award is intended to recognize the technician or investigator who exemplifies all those qualities that resided in Ron himself: strength, leadership, and motivation. Selected nominees should have a proven, consistent record in the EDU/EOD field. IABTI members submitting nominations must provide a complete and detailed history outlining the nominee’s contributions and achievements, with a traceable background clearly identifying the benefits and enhancements they have brought to their chosen field of endeavor.

Login to your accounts at www.iabti.org and navigate to the Awards section under the About tab for more information and to access the nomination forms.

All nominations, along with supporting documentation, must be submitted in writing to the International Business Office (IBO) no later than April 1, 2026.

Looking forward to this one. If you haven't renewed your training subscription you still can.
