The Town of Dewey Volunteer Fire Department is one of the smaller to average sized departments in Portage County. We have between 20-25 firefighters, a Chief, one Assistant Chief, two Captains, and two Lieutenants. Engine 1 is a 2014 International built by S & R of Marshfield, with a 2000 gallon tank, along with a 1250 GPM (gallon per minute) pump. Engine 1 is our main structure/vehicle fire unit.
Engine 2 is a 2004 Freightliner built by CFB with a 2,000 gallon tank and a 1,000 GPM. Engine 2 is typically our fill-site tank. Engine 3 is a 1984 Ford built by Grumman Emergency Products Inc of Roanoke, VA, with a 750 gallon tank, along with a 750 GPM pump. Brush 1 is a military surplus 6X6 with a 1,100 gallon tank and a 300 GPM pump. Brush 2 is a military surplus 6X6 with a 1,100 gallon tank and a 350 GPM pump. Brush 1 and Brush 2 are out first choice vehicles for any type of wild land/off road fire. We also have a rescue vehicle. Rescue 1, is a 1990 Ford and is used for any type of rescue calls, SCBA support, and our general utility truck.
