unless specifically designated otherwise, do not necessarily reflect the opinions or positions of the Library, its employees, or Board of Trustees. Comments, posts, and messages by the public are welcome and encouraged. Such postings will be monitored regularly by Library staff for content and relevancy. Any postings containing inappropriate content will be removed.

When in doubt, throw it out!

We have printed copies of Refrigerated and Frozen Food During Power Outage Safety Charts from Foodsafety.gov available for pickup at the front desk upon request.

As a general note, "As the USDA notes in Keeping Food Safe During an Emergency, your refrigerator will keep food safe for up to 4 hours during a power outage. Keep the door closed as much as possible. Discard refrigerated perishable food such as meat, poultry, fish, eggs, and leftovers after 4 hours without power," ( https://www.foodsafety.gov/food-safety-charts/food-safety-during-power-outage )

Find out from FoodSafety.gov how to keep food safe before, during, and after emergencies, such as floods, fires, natural disasters, or the loss of power.
