The Stillwater Police hosted their 21st Domestic Violence Awareness event earlier today. The event is in timing with the month of October, which is designated as Domestic Violence Awareness month. Over 7600 cell phones have been collected and distributed to victims since the program began in 2003.

Our condolences go out to the family of Chief Mehan and the Stillwater Newland-Wood Fire Department. Rest easy Chief, you have served your community well 💔

It is with deep sadness that the Stillwater Fire Department announces the passing of active Life Member and Past Chief William “Grampy”Mehan. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. He will be greatly missed by many.

Bill served the residents of the village of Stillwater and surrounding communities for 62 years and during this time, he held numerous operational and administrative leadership positions including department Chief and Treasurer. He was a vital member of our department.

Stillwater Police Department is conducting a death investigation on Gurba Drive South in the Town of Stillwater. One person is in custody at this time. There is no threat to the public. This will remain an active scene throughout the night. Stillwater PD is being assisted by the Mechanicville Police Department, Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Police.

More information will be released as it becomes available.

Earlier today, the Stillwater Police Department hosted their 20th Domestic Violence Awareness press conference. The event was in timing with October being National Domestic Awareness Month. Stillwater Police have collected over 7000 cell phones since 2003. The phones are given to advocates for distribution to victims of domestic violence and become lifelines in emergency situations. Many of these phones have been collected by area businesses and organizations that have engaged their employees and customers to donate no longer needed cell phones. A special "thank you" goes out to the organizations and individuals that are tagged below.
