🐥 Station 3 to the rescue, and not the kind you’d expect!

Our crew responded to Wendy’s on Perkins today for a little different kind of call. A family of ducklings had found their way into a storm drain and needed a hand getting out. Our guys pulled the grate, reached in, and got every single one of them out safe.

Not all rescues involve smoke. Sometimes they involve tiny, fluffy patients who have no idea how much trouble they were in. 🦆

We love this community, and apparently so do the ducks.

Station 1 showed up this Memorial Day. Weighted vests. Full Murph. No excuses.

1-mile run. 100 pull-ups. 200 push-ups. 300 air squats. 1-mile run. That’s the Hero WOD named after Navy SEAL Lt. Michael Murphy — killed in action in Afghanistan, June 28, 2005. You do it in a vest because he did it in body armor.

That’s the point. Every rep matters. Every step matters. Because for some, there was no finish line.

We’re thankful for the OSU Tactical Fitness and Nutrition Lab keeping our crew mission-ready. But today wasn’t about us. Today was about them — the ones who didn’t come home.

Rest easy, Lieutenant Murphy. We remember.

C Shift responded to a working kitchen fire this morning on N Davis Ct. Before crews even arrived, quick-thinking neighbors grabbed fire extinguishers and slowed the fire down. That head start made a real difference — firefighters made a fast knockdown and stopped the spread. That’s the community working together.

With summer here and kids home more often, it’s worth having a kitchen safety conversation with your family. Cooking fires are the leading cause of home fires, and they can get out of hand fast.

A few things to keep in mind:

- Never leave cooking unattended on the stovetop
- Keep kids away from the stove and oven while cooking
- Keep a fire extinguisher in your kitchen and know how to use it
- If a pan catches fire, put a lid on it and turn off the burner
- Distractions are a major factor in cooking fires — put the phone down
- Test your smoke alarms if you haven’t lately

Big thanks to the neighbors who took action this morning. You made a difference today.

We’re proud to support our mutual aid partners and the community members who stand behind them.

Floral Valley HCE and the Ingalls/Glencoe Masonic Lodge are hosting a fundraiser to support the local volunteer fire department this Saturday, May 16 from 4:00–8:00 PM at the Church of Christ Community Center.

BBQ, homemade desserts, and a chance to directly support the firefighters who answer the call for their community.

Volunteer departments don’t just run on equipment and training. They run on community support like this.

If you’re able, go out and be part of it.
