From tracking invasive aquatic plants to helping prepare Stillwater’s future water supply, OSU doctoral student Narges Taravatrooy is putting lake science to work. 💧

Using water samples, drones and satellite data, Narges is studying Oklahoma lakes to better understand water quantity and quality. Her research at Lake McMurtry and Lake Carl Blackwell is helping turn that science into information that water managers can use to protect these resources for the future.

Are you watering more than your crop actually needs? Do you know what’s in your private well water? 💧

OSU Extension has resources to help Oklahomans answer both. Producers can use soil moisture sensors, irrigation schedulers, Mesonet weather data and satellite estimates to better understand their crops’ water needs. That information can help guide irrigation decisions and potentially reduce unnecessary pumping and energy costs. Private well owners can also access free water screenings and Extension expertise to better understand their results and the next steps that may be needed.

It’s all part of how OSU Extension is turning water research into practical tools Oklahomans can use. Learn more about these efforts below.

There’s a lot that happens behind the scenes to make your county fair possible.

Last week, OSU Extension county personnel from across Oklahoma participated in the You Make THE Difference Initiative, gaining tools and strategies they can take back to their local fair boards. From strengthening fair operations and increasing volunteer engagement to building stronger community connections, these trainings help equip the people working behind the scenes to create better experiences for exhibitors, families, volunteers and everyone who takes part in their local fair.
