Yesterday, our firefighters had the privilege of participating in a condensed VEIS-style training hosted at the training grounds of the Stillwater Fire Department.

A special thank you to Chief Holly from Stillwater’s training division and to the A-shift firefighters who came out on their own time to support Ingalls Fire Department during this training. Your willingness to invest in us did not go unnoticed, and we are incredibly grateful.

Throughout the afternoon, our team gained valuable, hands-on experience in confined space operations, forcible entry, primary search, and victim removal. Firefighters also sharpened skills with ladders, SCBAs, halligans, pike poles, saws, and our thermal imaging camera in a realistic training environment that is difficult for us to replicate on our own.

Cooperative training with our mutual aid partners, such as Stillwater, is integral to our success as we continue to grow. The instruction was top notch, and access to the SFD training facilities gave our firefighters the opportunity to practice real-world skills that directly translate to better service for our community.

We are thankful for such willing partners and look forward to many more opportunities to train together.

It was a beautiful day for hose testing at Ingalls Fire Department. Our crews tested every single section of supply and attack hose to ensure they can all function properly and safely maintain up to 400 psi of pressure. Any hose that doesn’t pass is either retired or repaired and retested, depending on the reason for the failure.

In total, over 3/4 of a mile of hose was tested, dried, and repacked, all before 10:30 am. This annual testing helps ensure the equipment we rely on will perform when it matters most.

We even had one section of back-up hose from 1979 that has passed recertification year after year. After an incredible 47-year run, it was decided this would be the year we respectfully retire it.

We are grateful to Kinnunen Sales and Rental for allowing us to use their facilities year after year to complete this important work.

From all of us at the Ingalls Fire Department, we wish everyone who celebrates a joyful and safe Easter.

As you gather with family and friends, remember a few simple safety tips, keep candles attended, watch cooking in the kitchen, and use caution with outdoor grilling if you’re enjoying the beautiful weather.

We are always here if you need us. Have a wonderful Easter Sunday.

The Payne County Board of Commissioners has approved a county-wide burn ban effective immediately through April 6, following a vote by the Payne County Fire Chiefs.

No outdoor burning is allowed during this time.

Agricultural burning is still permitted only under strict conditions:
• A written prescribed burn plan must be followed
• A copy of the plan must be submitted to your local fire department and kept on-site
• Fire and law enforcement must be notified prior to burning

Brush piles are not considered agricultural burns and are not exempt from this ban.

Please reach out to us with any questions. Stay safe and help us prevent unwanted wildfires.

This afternoon at 3:06 pm, Ingalls Fire was requested for mutual aid to Cushing on a large, fast-moving, wind-driven brush fire several miles north of Cushing. Ingalls was able to get three apparatuses out the door and en route within just a few minutes of the request (Brush 4, Brush 2, and Tanker 1).

Ingalls was able to provide rapid extinguishment of several areas of the head fire working in collaboration with several other departments on scene. Our units then assisted in walking the fire line with rakes and leaf blowers to establish a buffer zone between the fire area and the unburned fuel.

Ingalls units stayed on scene until approximately 7:30 pm once a state forestry dozer crew and several Federal BLM wildland firefighting hand-crews had made significant progress in tying in around the northern edge of the fire ground.

Additional support on this fire included firefighting units from Ripley, Agra, Stroud, Lincoln County, OK Forestry, Stillwater, Drumright, Pawnee, Perkins, Glencoe, BLM units out of Oregon, tribal firefighting units (including Saginaw Chippewa and Bay Mills Indian Community out of Michigan), and likely several other departments that we don’t get a chance to interact with.

This fire was a great example of local, state, and federal assets working together to stop the fire before it was able to destroy any structures. Preplanned and strategically positioned state and federal firefighting resources were instrumental in assisting all of the local departments in a timely fashion.

Ingalls is once again grateful for the opportunity to help our neighbors and we are thankful for the tremendous support of our community during this fire season. We remind everyone that fire danger will remain high into next week and to please report any smoke that you see.

With warm temperatures, low humidity, and windy conditions, fire danger is elevated across our area this week, particularly tomorrow (Thursday 3/26/26) with a Red Flag warning from 9 AM - 10 PM. Fires can start easily and spread quickly, even from small sparks.

Please avoid outdoor burning if possible, use caution with equipment, and check any previous burn areas for rekindles.

Stay aware, stay cautious, and help us keep our community safe.

Today, Ingalls Fire Department provided mutual aid on back-to-back fires in Yale’s district, both originating from prescribed burns that became uncontrolled.

On the first fire, Ingalls assisted Yale Fire Department with backfiring operations to help contain the spread, with Brush 2 and Brush 4 operating on scene.

Shortly after, crews were dispatched to a second fire where the head fire jumped a roadway and spread rapidly through a neighboring pasture. Ingalls responded with Brush 4, Brush 2, Tanker 1, and Squad 1, working alongside Yale, Cushing, and Ripley Fire Departments to bring the fire under control.

These incidents are a strong reminder that conditions remain highly favorable for fire spread. As we head into the weekend, please check any existing burn areas and ensure they are fully extinguished and will not rekindle.

We appreciate the teamwork from all departments involved and the continued support from our community. Stay safe.

This afternoon, members of the Ingalls Fire Department participated in CPR/AED recertification training today to ensure our firefighters stay prepared to act when seconds matter most.

We’re also excited about the recent addition of AEDs on two of our apparatuses, helping ensure that lifesaving equipment is readily accessible on emergency scenes and during training. Making sure every member is confident and comfortable using these tools is a priority for our department.

Cardiac events remain the leading cause of firefighter line-of-duty deaths, accounting for roughly 40–50% of on-duty firefighter fatalities nationwide. That reality underscores why training and quick access to AEDs are so important for protecting both our firefighters and the communities we serve.

Training like this helps ensure that when the moment comes, our members are ready to respond quickly and effectively.
