🧐On Tuesday, April 21, students that worked as Undergraduate Research Assistants presented their research at the Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium 📝🙌

Kaitlyn Ferguson worked with faculty supervisor Dr. Kimberly Hale on a project titled: "The Benefits of Undergraduate Research Experiences for ASL Students" 👋

Tanya Rodriguez worked with faculty supervisor Dr. Carol Ready on an ongoing project titled "Exploring factors affecting language maintenance and/or shift in Guymon, Oklahoma: First insights from the Spanish in Rural Oklahoma (SpiRO) Corpus" which they also presented at the 12th International Workshop on Spanish Sociolinguistics at Georgetown University in Washington D.C. on April 10th! 💬

Undergraduate research pairs students directly with faculty mentors in a one-on-one relationship that offers personalized guidance, skill-building, and exposure to real scholarly work that classrooms alone can't provide. This close mentorship fosters intellectual growth, professional confidence, and lasting connections that open doors to graduate school and beyond. 🤓🤠

🎉🎉🎉Congratulations to Hiroka Thornton on receiving the Ethical Leadership (Favorite Faculty) Award! 🎉🎉🎉

This spring, the Ethical Leadership Award was presented to Hiroka Thornton, an educator who challenges students to embody the expectation of accountability and empathy of Oklahoma State students. Hiroka models ethical leadership through openness and courage in the classroom. 🖤🧡

One student shared, “...Professor Thornton always makes sure to let each student have a say in the discussion. In the past, she has stated that her calling as a teacher is to share her culture with us students, allowing us to hear new perspectives and become more open-minded. She gives us the opportunity to learn, debate, and grow alongside each other.”

Meaningful dialog in the classroom ensures students understand the importance of making informed decisions that encourage them to broaden their horizons. 🌏🗺
