Now we keep going. If you feel called to volunteer, we would love to talk. And if you know someone experiencing homelessness or housing instability who could use support and connection to resources, please reach out too.

When rental assistance and vouchers are more accessible, people facing homelessness and housing instability have greater access to housing options that meet their needs. That’s what the Crossroads to Justice Implementation Consultants and Minnesota Housing set out to address together.

Three implementation consultants – Deanna Monroe, Jessica Rose, and Katie Brown – brought their lived experience with homelessness and housing instability to their work with Minnesota Housing. Together, consultants and Agency staff made programs and practices more responsive to the needs of those affected by housing injustice:

❇️ Shaping practical solutions: Consultants provided their expertise to the design of requests for proposals, making the process clearer and more accessible to applicants.
❇️ Improving existing systems: Consultants worked with the Agency's Project Based Contract Administration Section 8 Tenant Hotline staff to make the system more intuitive and easier for callers to navigate.

Jessica Rose says, “The key is asking, ‘Does this actually work for people in real life?’ When you’ve lived through it, you notice barriers that others might not see. …That perspective leads to solutions that are more just and more humane.”

When people with lived experience are included in decision-making, we all do better!
