Happy New Year! Your Clayton County Tax Commissioner's Office is starting the year with TC Nuggets to better equip our Clayton County family with knowledge about property taxes.
It's Homestead Exemption Season (January 1-April 1)! New Homeowners, be sure to apply for your Homestead Exemption. You must live in the home for one year before it takes effect.
Also, anyone living in Clayton County who is a Senior, age 65 years or older as of January 1st, can also apply for a Senior (or school tax) Exemption. This is also a good time to verify what exemptions you have in place on your property.
What Are Property Taxes?
Property taxes are ad valorem taxes, meaning they are based on the value of your property as of January 1 each year.
What your property is worth (value assessed by the Tax Assessor), minus any exemptions, along with the millage rate (determined by the Board of Commissioners), determines what you owe each year.

Your Clayton County Tax Commissioner
