🚒 Meet the newest member of the Stockbridge Fire crew — Firefighter/Paramedic Kevin Brown! 🚑

The fire service has pretty much always been part of Kevin’s life. His dad joined the fire service several years before Kevin was born, and Kevin followed in his footsteps, getting involved himself at just 14 years old.

After completing paramedic school, Kevin knew he was ready for the next step in his career. That next step brought him right here to Stockbridge!

When he’s not at the firehouse, you can probably find Kevin on the ice playing hockey—a sport he’s enjoyed for 20 years—cooking up something good, or getting outside and enjoying everything the Berkshires has to offer.

We’re excited to have Kevin on board and look forward to having him serve the Stockbridge community.

Who turned the lights off? 😅

Turns out, searching a dark building in full gear isn’t quite as easy as it looks. Last night’s drill put our members through realistic search and rescue scenarios where communication and trust were just as important as finding the exit.

🚒 Monday Night Means Drill Night! 🚒

Tonight, our members reviewed proper PPE (personal protective equipment) and first-due actions—the critical tasks firefighters perform when arriving first on scene.

Regular training helps keep our members safe, strengthens teamwork, and ensures we’re always ready to serve the Stockbridge community when the call comes.

🚁 Talk about a high-flying training night!

Life Star touched down in West Stockbridge this evening for an incredible training opportunity! Alongside our neighbors from the West Stockbridge and Richmond Fire Departments, we got an up-close look at the helicopter, learned about landing zone operations, patient care, and how we all work together when seconds matter most.

A huge thank you to the Life Star crew for sharing their knowledge and expertise, and to our neighboring departments for another great night of training. Opportunities like these help ensure we’re ready when our communities need us most.

The hazy skies aren’t just affecting the view—they’re affecting our air quality, too.

Wildfire smoke from Canada has pushed air quality in the Stockbridge area into the Unhealthy range (AQI ~155).

What you should know:
• Limit prolonged time outdoors, especially strenuous activity.
• Children, older adults, and anyone with heart or lung conditions should stay indoors as much as possible.
• Keep windows closed if you can and use air conditioning or an air purifier if available.

Even healthy individuals may notice irritation or breathing discomfort during these conditions. If you experience coughing, difficulty breathing, chest pain, or worsening asthma symptoms, move indoors and seek medical attention if needed.

You’re not imagining it! Wildfire smoke from Canada is drifting into New England, giving us a hazy sky, a dimmer sun, and the chance for some stunning sunsets. If you snap a great photo of today’s sky over Stockbridge, share it with us in the comments—we’d love to see it!

🚨 An Air Quality Alert is in effect today. Children, older adults, and anyone with heart or lung conditions should consider limiting prolonged outdoor activity.

Last night’s storms certainly made their presence known across the Berkshires, bringing heavy rain, thunder, and some impressive lightning. We hope everyone made it through safely and without too much cleanup this morning.

Now, as we head into the Fourth of July holiday, the weather is shifting gears. Temperatures and humidity are on the rise, so if you’re spending time outdoors, remember to stay hydrated, take breaks in the shade, and keep an eye on family members, friends, and pets who may be more sensitive to the heat.

As you celebrate Independence Day, please remember to enjoy fireworks safely. Leave fireworks to the professionals, keep a safe distance from displays, and never use fireworks while impaired.
