🎉💜 HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MEG! 💜🎉

Last week, we got a head start celebrating our Technical Support Specialist, Meg, with a Stitch-themed birthday lunch made especially for her! 💙🌺

We enjoyed a homemade Chipotle-style bar with all the fixings for bowls and burritos 🌯🥣 because around here, ohana definitely means nobody leaves hungry! 😂

Today is officially Meg’s birthday, so help us show some love to the woman who helps keep the technology behind Rockdale County E911 up and running! 💻☎️✨

Meg, we hope your day is filled with lots of love, laughter, good food, and just the right amount of Stitch-style mischief! 💙💜

🎂 HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MEG! 🎉
Ohana means family, and we’re so glad you’re part of ours! 🌺

🚌 SEE THE BUS? STOP THE RUSH‼️

School is back in session, which means our roads are once again filled with school buses, busy drop-off lines, and little feet that don’t always look before they cross. 💛

When you see a school bus, slow down, pay attention, and be prepared to stop. A child may be stepping into the roadway when you least expect it.

That text can wait. 📵
That coffee can wait. ☕
That meeting will still be there. ⏰
A child’s safety can’t wait.

Give yourself a few extra minutes, watch those crosswalks, and obey school bus stop signals. 🛑

We want every child who leaves home in the morning to make it safely back home at the end of the day.

🚌 Slow down. Stay alert. Let the kids cross.

📍 “BUT 911 CAN SEE MY LOCATION… RIGHT?!”

Welllll… not always. 👀😂

Technology has come a long way, but calling 911 does not mean we always receive your exact location. That’s why one of the first questions you may hear from a dispatcher is:

📍 “What is the address of your emergency?”

Even if you think we already have it, tell us anyway‼️

If you don’t know the exact address, look around and give us whatever you can:

🛣️ Street names, intersections or highway markers
🏪 Businesses or store names
🏢 Apartment/building numbers
⛪ Schools, churches or other landmarks
🚗 Your direction of travel if you’re moving

And yes, we absolutely want to hear what happened… 😂 but first, WHERE are you?

Knowing your location allows us to start getting help headed your way while we continue asking questions.

📍 Location first. Story second.

📱 UH-OH… DID YOU CALL 911 BY ACCIDENT? 😳

First things first: DON’T PANIC and DON’T HANG UP! 😂

Accidental 911 calls happen to kids AND adults. Phones get bumped, emergency buttons get pressed, smartwatches get triggered… we get it!

If you accidentally call 911, simply stay on the line and tell the dispatcher you’re okay. That allows us to quickly confirm there’s no emergency and get back to helping callers who need us.

But if you hang up… 👀

📞 We WILL call you back.
🚔 And if we can’t confirm that you’re safe, law enforcement may be sent to check on you.

So save yourself * AND US * the extra steps. 😂 Just stay on the line and say:

“Sorry! It was an accident. I’m okay!”

We promise, you’re not in trouble. 💙

Accidents happen. Communication helps us keep everyone safe.

📱 QUICK, PARENTS — NO HELPING! 👀

If we asked your child for your phone number right now, could they tell us?

In an emergency, children can become scared, confused or separated from the adult they’re with. Knowing a few important pieces of information can make a BIG difference when they need help.

Try this little safety check with your child today:

📞 Your phone number
🏠 Their home address — including apartment/unit number, if applicable
👤 Your full name — not just “Mom,” “Dad,” “Grandma,” etc.
🚨 When to call 911 and when NOT to
📍 How to describe where they are if they don’t know the exact address
☎️ At least one other trusted adult’s name and phone number

And here’s an important one: teach them that 911 dispatchers are there to help. If they ever have to call, they should stay on the phone, listen carefully and answer the dispatcher’s questions as best they can, even if they’re scared.

💡 Make learning it fun! Practice during car rides, turn the phone number into a song or rhythm, or quiz them occasionally until they can say it confidently without looking.

🖍️ WE MADE IT EVEN EASIER!
Check out our Kids’ Safety Check Activity Sheet included with this post! Print it out, complete it together and use it to practice important emergency information in a fun, kid-friendly way. 🚨⭐

Parent challenge: Put the completed sheet away and quiz them again next week. Can they remember it without looking? 👀

Already know it all? Drop a ✅ in the comments!

🚫 Important: The completed activity sheet contains personal information. Please keep it at home and do not post photos of the completed sheet or your child’s phone number, address, school or other identifying information in the comments.

Teach the information they may need in an emergency. Protect the information they don’t need to share publicly. 💙

🎒📸 Before You Post That First-Day Photo… Take a Closer Look!

Back-to-school pictures are one of the best parts of a new school year. New outfits, fresh backpacks, first-day signs—and of course, proud parents ready to share the moment. 💙

But before you hit POST, take a quick look at how much information that photo may be sharing.

A first-day-of-school board can reveal your child’s:

📚 Full name or age
🏫 School, grade or teacher
🚌 Bus information or daily routine
⚽ Sports, activities and favorite things
📍 Location or other identifying details

Individually, those details may not seem like much. Put together, however, they can tell a stranger quite a bit about your child—including where they may be, what they like and information someone could use to make themselves seem familiar.

You don’t have to skip the first-day photo! ❤️

Take it. Save it. Send the detailed version to family and friends. If you’re sharing publicly, consider using a simpler sign, cropping or covering identifying information, checking the background for school names or bus numbers, and making sure location tagging is turned off.

And don’t forget to review your social media privacy settings and know exactly who can see what you share.

✨ Celebrate the milestone. Share the smile. Protect the details.

Wishing all of our Rockdale County students, families, teachers and school staff a safe and successful school year! 📚🍎
