Housing is the foundation of thriving communities, and Northwest Kansas needs more of it. Through the Kansas Housing Cooperative Program, homeowners can receive forgivable loans to build new homes in communities of 10,000 residents or fewer.

This program is designed to:
Enhance housing availability across our 26-county region
Stimulate economic growth and attract new families
Support homebuyers through forgivable loan assistance
For example, a family building a $300,000 home may qualify for a forgivable loan of up to $51,000, significantly reducing their financing costs.

We are asking local economic development leaders, bankers, realtors, and community partners like you to help spread the word to eligible families and builders. While we’re taking applicants from all counties in our region, we want to make sure word gets out in counties where no one has taken advantage of this opportunity.

Just a reminder, the office is out conducting 17% Reinspection in Richland, Rush, Northampton and Logan Townships (towns of Palco, Zurich, Damar and Webster are included). Please keep in mind that the field staff are not appraising your property, just verifying data on file and recording any changes.
If you were not home, there will be blue door hangers on your door. And if you don't live at that home or out of state, please look for a yellow flyer in the mail.
For the rest of the County, if there are any buildings that have blown down or any interior information that might affect the value of the property, please let the office know.

As of July 1st, 2024, filing requirements for personal property has changed. Please read the following.

Dear TAXPAYER,

Please find this letter as notification that filing requirements for personal property as prescribed in K.S.A. 79-306 have changed as of July 1, 2024.

Previously, all Kansas taxpayers were required to annually list, sign, and submit a personal property rendition to the county appraiser’s office no later than March 15 for all tangible personal property subject to taxation located in that county’s taxing districts as of January 1. The 2024 Kansas Legislature passed Senate Bill 410, which amends K.S.A. 79-306 and removes the annual reporting requirement for taxpayers with an accurate rendition on file
and no changes required.

As amended, K.S.A. 79-306 now states, “if a person has filed an initial statement listing property with the county appraiser pursuant to this section, no subsequent annual statement shall be required to be filed with the county appraiser regarding such property
unless there is a change to report relating to the property previously listed or the statement”. Thus, if a current and accurate personal property rendition is on file in the county appraiser’s office, there is no longer a requirement to file a rendition annually
unless there are changes. If there are any changes to report, the taxpayer is required to file a rendition for that tax year to avoid penalties. Examples of changes that should be reported are the purchase of new personal property, the sale of personal property, and changes to the address or use of personal property.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our office at (785)425-6262 or 115 N. Walnut St in Stockton Kansas. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
