Driven to be the best reading teachers they can be, a group of educators in Lammersville Unified came together to share ideas and build on summer training focused on evidence-based instruction. 📚✨

They had all attended the same district Science of Reading Academy in July, but they came back on Thursday for a follow-up training offered by the district to set the table for further collaboration and make sure the teachers had the resources they needed for their students.

The SJCOE Continuous Improvement and Support (CIS) team recently hosted an Instructional Coach Network meeting. 💡

The network brings teacher leaders from across San Joaquin County together for collaborative learning, shared problem-solving, and practical resource sharing to strengthen daily coaching practice.

During the meeting, participants explored how sharing personal stories and experiences helps build authentic connections with the teachers they serve.

Where do educators who are passionate about teaching their students to read spend a Saturday? At the Early Literacy Institute! 📚✨

Held in collaboration with SJCOE’s Teachers College of San Joaquin and the California Kindergarten Association, the Early Literacy Institute brought educators together for a full day of professional learning, featuring a variety of breakout sessions led by literacy experts.

Many attendees already followed keynote speaker Greg Smedly-Warren on social media, and they got the chance to learn from his 21 years of experience as an educator. As part of The Kindergarten Smorgasboard, Greg shared practical strategies and insights from his own kindergarten classroom to help educators build strong readers.

It really was a Super Saturday at the SJCOE! 🌟

More than 180 preschool teachers, paraeducators, family childcare providers, specialists and other early educators came together for the first Super Saturday training of the year, hosted by SJCOE Early Childhood Development.

From infancy through elementary school, these educators play an important role in supporting children and families. Super Saturdays are designed to empower early educators with opportunities to learn, connect and continue providing high-quality services to children and families. 📚💛

And this was just the beginning! Six Super Saturdays are scheduled throughout the year. 🙌

At the first Insightful Morning session of the year, educators learned how systems and leadership improve reading in schools. 📚✨

Literacy expert and author Pati Montgomery led an interactive session for teachers, coaches, administrators and other literacy leaders, emphasizing that lasting improvement goes beyond curriculum and professional development.

Montgomery also spent the afternoon at the first San Joaquin County Early Literacy Community of Practice meeting of the year. The members of the group represent schools from across the county with a focus on improving literacy outcomes. 🤝🏫
