The SJCOE is ready for the new school year! 🎉🏫✏️

In the days leading up to the first day of school, the SJCOE held a series of kickoff events for all staff members in the one.Program, Special Education Programs, and Venture Academy Family of Schools.

Inspiration and excitement filled the air as teachers, administrators, and support staff were reunited with their colleagues for back-to-school training sessions and activities.

Welcome back SJCOE!

Over 60 school leaders and teachers gathered at the SJCOE for an engaging training led by Peter Liljedahl, creator of the Building Thinking Classrooms framework. Throughout the day, Liljedahl demonstrated multiple live lessons, guiding attendees through authentic tasks, collaborative wall exercises, and structured lesson launches to highlight the practical application of the framework.

By stepping directly into the student experience, participants gained valuable insights into classroom dynamics, lesson flow, and student engagement. Educators walked away with actionable tools designed to successfully implement the BTC framework on any day of the school year.

Exciting things are cooking in Escalon Unified School District! ✂️

Congratulations to Escalon High School on their brand-new Food Science Lab and Emergency Medical Response classroom! County Superintendent Dr. Troy Brown and SJCOE staff toured the facilities and connected with the dedicated EUSD team.

These state-of-the-art spaces open up hands-on opportunities for students. From mastering culinary science to preparing for healthcare careers, Escalon students are getting a head start on their futures! 🩺👨‍🍳✨

Students at the UC Davis Future Scientists and Engineers summer camp designed and 3-D printed wind turbines, explored aerodynamics, and built a LEGO Mars rover as well as an AI robot. 🤖

During the three-day camp, students spent two days at the SJCOE FabLab and one on the UC Davis campus, exploring hands-on STEM learning and discovering future career possibilities through a collaboration between the SJCOE STEM, Workforce, and Innovation Department and UC Davis. 💡

Welcome back, bus riders! 🚌💙

As we get ready to welcome back students in SJCOE Special Education Programs, our bus riders gathered on Monday for their start-of-year orientation.

For many students, the smiling face of a bus rider is the first they see each school day. From that first "hello" in the morning to the final "goodbye" in the afternoon, bus riders play an important role in creating positive connections with students and families while helping ensure every student arrives safely.

Have a wonderful school year, and thank you for all you do!

Students at one.Discover wrapped up summer school on Thursday by boiling up ramen noodles with fresh toppings! 🍜☀️🏫

Throughout the summer, the students would come together with staff to explore new food from cultures reflecting their school and the community. From spam musubi to egg rolls to burgers and more, students learned how easy it can be to prepare delicious food at home.

The unsung heroes of the classroom spent a day learning, networking, and celebrating the work they do during the SJCOE’s first Paraeducator Summit last Thursday. 📚 🤝

The summit’s theme was “Helping Students Shine” because of the essential role that paraeducators and instructional assistants play in the classroom. They honed those skills in focused breakout sessions and by learning from one another.
Thank you for all you do to help students shine! 🌟👏

¡Bienvenidos! 👋 This week 18 adults participated in the SJCOE’s Spanish refresher course! Educators and community members refreshed their Spanish skills during this free, four-day high intensity language training to build confidence when having conversations in the community.

The course is funded by the Bilingual Teacher Professional Development Program Grant, and offered by the SJCOE Language and Literacy department on behalf of MÁS Maestros BTP and in partnership with the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE).
