To help citizens received the best and most efficient service the Stockton Police Department can provide, we would like to help explain the Stockton Police Department's phone contact system.

First and foremost, if a citizen needs immediate first responder assistance, please dial 911. This phone call will immediately go to the 911 Dispatch Center. The 911 Telecommunicator's will receive your call and dispatch the appropriate emergency resources that are needed.

Far too often, the Stockton Police Department's NON-EMERGENCY phone number is called for IN PROGRESS EMERGENCIES. Some common examples of this are domestic disturbances, reckless driving complaints, medical/ trauma emergencies, and vehicle crashes. This really hinders the type of emergency response that can/ should be provided to a citizen in distress. Many times the citizen reporting the ENERGENCY on the NON-EMERGENCY line are attempting to report an incident that is not occurring in the Stockton Police Department's area of response. This greatly delays the help that individual may need. Also, a Stockton Police Officer may not be available to answer the NON-EMERGENCY phone line if that officer is currently handling another EMERGENCY. The citizen that needs immediate first responder assistance might only have a single opportunity to call for help. That single phone call must/ should be to 911. Even if the Stockton Officer is busy on another incident, the 911 Telecommunicator will dispatch other available first responders to provide the appropriate and fastest resources that emergency needs.

If a citizen is attempting to contact a police officer to speak about a NON-EMERGENCY matter, please call the 815-947-2512 phone number. This phone number goes directly to the Stockton Police Department Patrol Officer's cell phone. If an officer is available, the officer will answer. If a citizen calls and the phone call goes to voicemail, please leave a message. That officer is currently responding to an incident or currently handling another police related matter. That officer will then contact the citizen at a later time. Again, if a citizen feels that a situation needs a first responder immediately, please call 911 and report the incident. A 911 Telecommunicator will dispatch the closest and most appropriate resources.

Any citizen wanting to speak with a Police Administrator, in regards to any manner, please call the 815-947-3157 number and listen to the prompts. Any citizen requesting a police report, or any matter involving records keeping, please contact the Police Clerk at 815-947-3157 and listen to the prompts.

We hope this will help to clarify any confusion.
