An active upper level pattern and embedded disturbances will keep periodic chances for showers and thunderstorms in the forecast for the rest of this week. The main chances look to generally favor later in the day and into the evening and overnight hours. Some storms today through Thursday could be strong to severe, with damaging winds and large hail the main threats. Winds through Friday remain south to southeasterly, could see some gusts near 20 to 25 MPH this afternoon. High temperatures through the end of the week are generally in the 80s.

** A Few Severe Storms Possible MONDAY EVENING
(posted 6am Monday)

- A Marginal-to-Slight Risk for a few severe storms is in place this evening for our forecast area...mainly for the 7 PM-1 AM time frame, with the most-favored Slight Risk focused in the southwest half of our area.

- Primary threat wind gusts ~ 60 MPH, but large hail/heavy rain also possible. Flooding is not a major concern, but a few nuisance issues cannot be ruled out in places that might get 1-2" of rain in a short time.

Another chance for strong to severe storms returns to the area for Monday, with the best chances being mainly after 8 PM and into the overnight hours. Large hail and damaging winds are the primary threats, though locally heavy rainfall will also be possible. Be sure to stay up to date with the latest forecasts.

Scattered showers/storms will come to an end this morning. Highs today will be in the 80s with light winds. Highs climb into the 80s to low 90s on Monday under partly cloudy skies. Scattered thunderstorm chances return to the area during the evening to overnight hours on Monday. A few of these storms could be strong to severe capable of producing large hail and damaging wind gusts. Scattered showers and thunderstorms continue on Tuesday with highs in the 80s.

At 525 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Zurich, or 19 miles north of Ellis, moving north at 40 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

Locations impacted include...
Plainville, Palco, Damar, Zurich, and Codell.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.

If on or near Webster State Lake, get away from the water and move indoors or inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to15 miles from the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter now! Do not be caught on the water in a thunderstorm.

** Severe Storm Risk HAS INCREASED For Sat Evening-Sun AM
(posted Saturday afternoon)

A band of strong to severe thunderstorms is expected to develop across Kansas this afternoon and spread northward into Nebraska during the evening hours. Some of these storms will be capable of producing 2 inch hail and wind gusts to 70 MPH. An isolated tornado will also be possible early on, favoring our north central Kansas counties.

Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are possible across the area during the late afternoon to late evening hours (4-11pm). Storms that develop could become severe capable of producing golf ball sized hail and wind gusts around 60mph.

An unsettled weather pattern will keep chances for showers and thunderstorms in the forecast the rest of this week on into the start of next week. For today, more scattered to widespread chances will continue to work their way north through across the area with time. Severe weather is not expected through tonight. Looking at Friday through Monday, while there are chances each day, not expecting a non stop rainout. Chances will become more focused later in the day into the evening and overnight hours. There will be the potential for a few strong to severe storms Saturday, with large hail and damaging winds the primary hazards.

Chances for thunderstorms will continue across the area through the end of the week and upcoming weekend. Late in the day Saturday into Saturday evening, there will be the potential for some storms to be strong to severe.
