On April 29, 2026, Officer Bryant with the Stockton Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a motor vehicle. During the stop, Sgt. Marshall assisted and had LT. K9 Mali conducted a free-air sniff around the vehicle. LT. K9 Mali alerted to the presence of illegal narcotics.

A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted, and a crystal like substance resembling methamphetamines were located and field tested which was positive. The driver was taken into custody and transported to the Cedar County Sheriff’s Office for processing, where he was placed on a 24-hour hold for investigation.

A probable cause statement will be completed, and will be forwarded to the Cedar County Prosecutor’s Office for formal charges.

Chief Yokley would also like to recognize LT. K9 Mali for her continued outstanding work. This marks her 9th successful alert out of 9 deployments maintaining a 100% success rate and leading to the removal of illegal narcotics from the streets of Stockton and Cedar County.

Its that time of year again. The Stockton Police Department would like to remind all residents to please ensure that grass clippings are blown back into your yard and not into the roadway when mowing.

Grass clippings left on the street may seem harmless, but they can create serious hazards for others:

- 🏍️ Motorcycles and bicycles can lose traction, increasing the risk of crashes.
- 🚗 Vehicles may experience reduced tire grip, especially during turns or sudden stops.
- 🌧️ When wet, clippings can become extremely slick—similar to driving on ice.
- 🚧 Clippings can also clog storm drains, contributing to localized flooding.

Keeping our streets clear is a simple step that helps protect your neighbors and prevents avoidable accidents.

Stockton, Missouri Officially Receives Missouri Blue Shield Designation for 2026

Stockton, Missouri – Today, the City of Stockton received official word from the Missouri Department of Public Safety that it has once again earned the Missouri Blue Shield designation for 2026. This honor recognizes Missouri communities that demonstrate a strong commitment to enhancing public safety, investing in and supporting law enforcement, and building partnerships between law enforcement and the community. Stockton was also recognized with a Blue Shield designation in 2025.

The Missouri Blue Shield Program was created by Governor Mike Kehoe in January 2025 through Executive Order 25-03. In 2025, 201 Missouri communities earned the Blue Shield designation, recognizing local governments for their significant efforts to reduce crime and foster law enforcement–community partnerships to strengthen public safety. The opportunity to earn the Blue Shield designation for 2026 opened on February 4, 2026, and communities that earned the designation in 2025 were required to reapply for continued recognition.

“The Blue Shield program has shown what’s possible when communities commit to prioritizing law enforcement and public safety,” Governor Kehoe said. “After awarding $50,000 grants to more than 200 communities last year, we’re continuing that work by welcoming new communities and renewing Blue Shield designations for counties, towns, and cities that remain committed to the program.”

“Strengthening public safety and committing to joint law enforcement community–citizen safety efforts is what the Blue Shield Program is all about and the Department of Public Safety is honored to work with communities like Stockton, that have answered the Blue Shield challenge,” said Mark James, Director of the Missouri Department of Public Safety (DPS). “Last year, the essential equipment provided by Blue Shield grants included 388 mobile data terminals, 351 body cameras, 151 license plate readers (LPR), 102 ballistic vests, 91 interoperable radios, and 56 vehicles. We look forward to getting additional important equipment and training to our partners in local law enforcement.”

“This continued recognition speaks to the consistency and dedication of our officers and the support we receive from our community,” said Chief of Police Zakk Yokley. “Earning the Missouri Blue Shield designation again in 2026 shows that Stockton is not just meeting expectations, we are building on them. We remain focused on proactive policing, strengthening community relationships, and ensuring our officers have the training and resources needed to keep our citizens safe.”

“Our city is proud to once again be recognized as a Missouri Blue Shield community,” said Mayor Brandon Cahill. “This designation highlights the strong partnership between our police department, city leadership, and residents. We are committed to continuing these efforts to ensure Stockton remains a safe and thriving community for everyone.”

Communities are eligible for a Missouri Blue Shield designation based on their dedication to reducing crime, making substantial investments in public safety, and developing strong collaboration with law enforcement agencies and community stakeholders. Each participating community’s commitment is reviewed annually to ensure continued alignment with the program’s goals.
Participation Incentives

Communities that earn a Missouri Blue Shield designation will receive grant funding for law enforcement training and equipment as part of Governor Kehoe’s recommended budget for State Fiscal Year 2027, provided the General Assembly approves the funding. The Governor’s FY 2027 budget appropriates $10 million to the program for equipment and training grants. Communities will also be featured on the Governor’s social media pages as well as the DPS website to highlight their participation in the program.

The City of Stockton earned a Missouri Blue Shield designation due to its exceptional commitment to public safety. Through continued investment in officer training, enhanced response capabilities, and strong partnerships with community members and stakeholders, Stockton has demonstrated an ongoing dedication to protecting its residents. This designation affirms the City’s commitment to creating a safer, more secure environment for all who live and work in the community.
