Our hearts are heavy for our brothers and sisters at Huntsville. They lost an icon of the department and the community. Chief Wilson was one of a kind and will be missed. Please pray for the Huntsville Volunteer Fire Department and the surrounding community in these hard times.

Today, we lost a truly good man and a dedicated leader. Chief Danny Wilson passed away this morning, leaving behind a legacy of service, sacrifice, and care for those around him. Please keep his family, friends, fellow firefighters, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him in your thoughts and prayers in the days ahead. This one hits close to home, and it is a heartbreaking loss for so many.

Chief, thank you for your service, your leadership, and the countless lives you touched along the way. Watch over us and keep us safe until we meet again.

Rest easy, Chief. You will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

BACK TO SCHOOL SAFETY ALERT

Our morning and afternoon commutes will look a little different as Rockingham County students head back to class on Monday. Staying alert and knowing North Carolina’s school bus stop laws are essential for protecting our children on the road. Take a look at the official NC DOT guide below to understand when you are legally required to stop.

NC School Bus Stop Rules Breakdown
⚠️Two-Lane Road: Traffic moving in both directions must stop.
⚠️Two-Lane Road with Center Turn Lane: Traffic in both directions must stop.
⚠️Four-Lane Road (No Median): Traffic in both directions must stop.
⚠️Divided Highway (4+ Lanes with Median/Physical Barrier): Only traffic following the bus must stop. Oncoming traffic may proceed with caution.
⚠️ Four+ Lanes with Center Turn Lane: Only traffic following the bus must stop. Oncoming traffic does not need to stop.
