๐U.S. job growth slowed sharply in December with just 50,000 jobs added, closing out the WEAKEST year for hiring since the pandemic. The unemployment rate ticked down slightly to about 4.4%. Health care and hospitality saw gains, but manufacturing and retail lost jobs, and many factories cite higher costs from tariffs as a drag on hiring and morale. Workers also feel less confident about job security, and the Fed has cut rates to try to support the economy.
