🏆 PA State Envirothon Results 🏆

On Wednesday, May 20, the Lakeview Scudmarks competed in the Pennsylvania State Envirothon, an environmental competition that challenges students in the areas of wildlife, aquatics, forestry, soils, and this year’s current issue topic: nonpoint source pollution.

After winning the local competition on April 22, the team developed and presented an oral presentation on nonpoint source pollution before traveling to Camp Mt. Luther in Mifflinburg, PA, to compete in the state competition.

Out of 66 teams across Pennsylvania, the Scudmarks earned an outstanding 4th place finish in the state! Each team member also received a $350 college scholarship in recognition of their achievement.

We are incredibly proud of this team and their dedication, hard work, and perseverance. Their accomplishments over the years have been remarkable:

• 13th Place – 2023
• 9th Place – 2024
• 4th Place – 2025
• 4th Place – 2026

Special recognition goes to Judah Phillips and Seth Phillips, who have been members of the original team since 2023 and have competed at all four state competitions.

Congratulations to the 2026 Scudmarks team:
Judah Phillips, Seth Phillips, Denna Sommers, Ella Thiec, and Quinten Becki.

Special thanks goes to their coaches, Mrs. McCullough and Mr. Fagley!
What an incredible accomplishment — congratulations on a job well done!

Lakeview Students Shine at the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science State Meeting!

We are incredibly proud of the outstanding group of Lakeview students who attended and presented their research at the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science (PJAS) State Meeting held at Penn State University from May 17–19. Representing Lakeview with excellence were:

Juniors: Levi Haines, Ethan Johnson, and Vivian Martin
Freshmen: Quinten Becki and Jonathan Frey
8th Graders: Cylas Fry-Stutzman and Emma Tomeo
7th Grader: Penn Brocklehurst

Each of these students earned the opportunity to compete at the state level after receiving First Place Awards at the regional PJAS competition held in February at Slippery Rock University. Their hard work, dedication, and commitment to scientific research truly paid off!

At the state competition, Levi Haines, Ethan Johnson, Vivian Martin, Quinten Becki, Jonathan Frey, Cylas Fry-Stutzman, and Emma Tomeo all earned First Place Awards, while Penn Brocklehurst earned an impressive Second Place Award.

A special congratulations goes to Levi Haines, who achieved the incredible honor of receiving a perfect score on his presentation!

We would also like to recognize our junior presenters—Levi, Ethan, and Vivian—as PJAS Perseverance Award Winners, an honor earned by students who have presented research at the state meeting for at least four years. An extra shoutout to Ethan Johnson, who has now presented his research at the state level for an amazing five years!

Congratulations to all of these talented young scientists for the countless hours of research, preparation, and dedication they invested in their projects. You continue to make Lakeview proud through your curiosity, innovation, and perseverance. Lakeview is incredibly proud of you!

I did not get the best pictures this time. The high school and middle presented at different times. I had to judge presentations as well, so I did not get to the senior high awards ceremony. I could not convince them all to get dressed back up once we were altogether again. It was a great trip though. Lakeview truly has some of the most innovative, curious, and polished students!

State K’Nex/STEM Design Competition

Lakeview was proudly represented at the State K’Nex/STEM Design Competition on Friday, May 8 at the PA Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg by our outstanding 4th grade team of David Creekpaum, Reed Shearer, and Cooper Wygant!

These boys earned the opportunity to compete at the state level after winning their regional Intermediate Unit competition. Across Pennsylvania, there were originally 518 fourth and fifth grade teams competing for a chance to advance. Each IU sent only its first place team to states, meaning our Lakeview students competed against the top 24 teams from across the entire state!

Since the regional competition, these boys worked incredibly hard to take their project even further by expanding their research, refining their design, and strengthening their oral presentation skills. During the competition, teams were given only two hours to completely rebuild their K’Nex structure before presenting to the judges under a strict two-minute time limit.

Our “Renewable Revolution” team truly stepped outside the box by taking their presentation to the next level — even writing and performing a song as part of their presentation! 🎵👏 Judges also evaluated each team’s PowerPoint presentation, engineering journal, and responses to questions about their design process and research. While only the top four teams across the state were recognized during the awards ceremony, we could not be more proud of David, Reed, and Cooper for their creativity, dedication, hard work, research, problem solving, and bravery in trying something unique and memorable.

The exciting news is that these talented young engineers will have the opportunity to compete again next year as 5th graders — and they are already looking forward to it!

Way to go, David, Reed, and Cooper! We are so proud of you! ❤️🖤
