It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved Executive Director, Valerie.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, colleagues, and the many individuals whose lives she touched. Information regarding memorial services will be shared once arrangements have been finalized by her family.
Valerie’s family described her as the “glue” that held everyone together — a reflection that resonates deeply within our organization. Her ability to unite people with compassion, strength, and purpose defined her leadership and her life.

A dedicated and highly engaged Executive Director, Valerie approached her work with energy, humility, and unwavering commitment. She was a visible presence throughout the organization, working alongside staff and leading by example. She never asked others to do what she herself was unwilling to do, earning the respect and admiration of all who worked with her.
Valerie’s devotion to LIAFS was matched by her genuine care for people. She was accessible to staff at every level and fostered a culture grounded in professionalism, dignity, and compassion. Her contributions to the organization and the community it serves are immeasurable.

Valerie’s life and leadership leaves a lasting legacy of service, compassion, and excellence. We are grateful for the time we shared with her and for the extraordinary example she set. She will be remembered not only for what she accomplished, but for the kindness and humanity she brought to every interaction.

Another Successful Year for the Youth Corps Santa Fund!

We’re thrilled to share that this year’s Santa Fund was a wonderful success! 🎅🎁 Pictured (L to R) are Tara Ebrahimian, WMHO Education Manager, alongside Jackie Ortiz and Amanda Rajotte from Long Island Adolescent and Family Services (LIAFS).

The fund raised enough to purchase gifts for 23 children living at LIAFS, a foster care facility for children ages 2–17, located right here in Stony Brook. Thank you to the WMHO Youth Corps and the community who donated for making this holiday season brighter! ❤️

Thank you so much to everyone for your support every year!
