Tobin Trail We love this advanced intermediate-level trail out of Tobin California. First mile takes you to Colby Creek, 2.5 miles total over to Buck's Creek and more.

Walked up the trail today with Brenda and found that Roger has really been hard at work improving the lower sections of the path, plus improving his newer low trail towards Buck's Creek. The upper sections of trail below the hogs back are 98 percent clear of downfall debris and we really enjoyed our hike. The wildflowers are really coming out and the grasses and mosses loved the rain.

It's been 4.5 years since the Dixie Fire torched our area. A lot of work has gone into repairing and maintaining and improving the Tobin Trail so that we can use it. However, brush keeps growing, trees keep falling, and rains and animals keep degrading the path. Be aware that you may find your way obstructed by new blockages. Brenda and I were up there last week, and we had to do more clearing again to get to Colby Creek. Roger has been working on it, too. I suggest bringing work gloves when you hike the tail, in case you need to break or move branches and limbs. We're trying to keep up with it.😁

Did a short hike up the trail to hug the Ponderosa and then checked out the new lower trail spur Roger is creating which takes a more level way to Colby Creek, and eventually to Buck's Creek. Brenda and I will be able to help work on this new path a lot more easily. It was lovely to be out in our forest world.

Today's hike up the trail started with a nice reroute by Roger at the beginning to get up higher more easily. The river is still running high, and the lupine and other wildflowers are putting on a nice show. Despite Roger's vigilant efforts, we had some new-fallen branches and limbs to move, but we were glad to do our part in that small way. Fabulous trek.

We went up the glorious trail on a bitter, blustery morning two weeks ago. It's wintry up there, but the ins and outs gave us long respite from the frigid wind, and we found the beginning of ground cover's return greening up the path. The trail was in great shape, with more of Roger's handiwork in evidence. Lots of acorns, too.

As you start up the trail the old Oak Alley is shedding Dixie damage. This falling trunk is hanging by three threads of bark. We passed under it rapidly.

We went to see if the Martha Washington lilies were blooming today, but we learned: if they're about to bloom, don't wait to go back. Two weeks absence meant we missed the bloom time.
We did see lizards, newts, and had to pass by a rattlesnake within three feet of it, so we did have delights and entertainments along our hike.

Roger has been hard at work on the lower end of the Tobin Trail and it shows. Even these photos don't do it justice. Lots of storm damage keeps covering the trail, and yet Roger perseveres and keeps his smile. Thanks, Roger! We had a great hike today, and the wildflowers are really beginning to emerge! Toothwort, Douglas violets, tiny white flower (not yet Meadowfoam) and lots more to come!
