The Connecticut Writing Project needs volunteers to read and score the Scholastic Writing Awards. This usually occurs much earlier in the semester, but Scholastic had no end of problems with their new platform. The time line for scoring isn't bad--March 13--but the time line to get you into the system is tight--Feb 29.

✨ Speaker Spotlight! ✨ Anna Kraczyna was born and raised in Florence by American artist parents. She has dual American and Italian nationality, is bilingual and bicultural, and is also fluent in French. She owes her surname to her Russian émigré grandparents. Following a long and successful career as an international fashion model, which took her to live in Milan, Paris and New York, Kraczyna returned to her native city where she graduated in Italian Literature from the University of Florence. Kraczyna lectures on Italian language, literature, and culture at American universities and colleges in Florence. She has taught at the campuses in Italy of Stanford University and Sarah Lawrence College.

Kraczyna co-authored the annotated translation of "The Adventures of Pinocchio" for Penguin Classics. Join her for our next forum TOMORROW at 7PM as she discusses with Ballard Institute John Bell the fascinating complexity of Collodi’s classic story. Free admission. Lately, the push to eliminate the arts from high schools around the country has me worried. In times of crisis, the arts give us reasons — so many reasons — to remain hopeful.
