Today, the Stoughton Police Department honors and remembers the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.

Memorial Day is more than the unofficial start of summer. It is a solemn reminder of the tremendous cost of freedom and an opportunity to reflect on the courage, selflessness, and devotion demonstrated by generations of American service members, from the Revolutionary War to the conflicts of today.

We remember those who answered the call without hesitation, leaving behind their families, homes, and futures in defense of our country and the freedoms we hold dear.

Today, we honor their sacrifice, remember their legacy, and keep their families and loved ones in our thoughts.

Please join us in taking a moment this Memorial Day to remember and honor America’s fallen heroes. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

This Memorial Day weekend, we encourage our community to take time to remember and honor the brave members of our Armed Forces from Stoughton, and across our nation, who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country.

The documentary Stoughton’s Fallen, produced by Mike Hardman and the Stoughton Media Access Corporation, tells the stories of Stoughton service members who gave their lives defending our freedom from the Revolutionary War through the Vietnam War. Their courage, sacrifice, and dedication to our nation will never be forgotten.

Deputy Chief Nate Derby was privileged to provide the voiceover for the story of Colonel William Patrick, who was killed during the Battle of Cobleskill, New York, during the Revolutionary War. The documentary serves as a powerful reminder of the deep history of military service and sacrifice within our community.

As we gather with family and friends this Memorial Day weekend, we ask all residents to remember our hometown heroes and all veterans who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifices secured the freedoms we enjoy today, and their legacy continues to inspire generations.

We thank all who have served and especially honor those who never returned home.

Bicycle, eBike, and eScooter Safety Focus

With the arrival of warm weather and the school year nearing it's end. the Stoughton Police Department will be conducting an increased focus on bicycle, eBike, and eScooter safety throughout town.

We’ve seen an increase in unsafe operation of bicycles, eBikes, and eScooters , particularly among juveniles, including riders without helmets, failing to follow traffic laws, and in some cases, intentionally riding in ways that create dangerous situations for both riders and motorists.

As part of this safety initiative, officers will be stopping violators to educate them about bicycle safety. Where it is appropriate, issuing citations, and impounding bicycles operated by juveniles 16 years old and younger for 15 days in cases of reckless or unsafe operation.

Please remember:
âś… Bicyclists must follow the same traffic laws as motor vehicles.
âś… Riders 16 years old and younger are required by law to wear a helmet when riding a bicycle or eBike.
✅ eScooter operators must have a driver’s license or learner’s permit and wear a helmet.

We’re also asking parents and guardians to take a few minutes to talk to their children about bicycle and eBike safety—including wearing a helmet, following the rules of the road, and riding responsibly. These conversations make a big difference in keeping our young riders safe.

This increased enforcement is not about punishment — it’s about safety. Our goal is to prevent injuries and accidents and ensure that everyone, riders, drivers, and pedestrians alike, can safely share the road.

We appreciate the community’s cooperation as we work together to make Stoughton’s streets safer for everyone.
