We wish everyone a solemn and reflective Veteran's Day, and look back to the holiday's origin as Armistice Day, marking the end of the first World War—"the war to end all wars".
We give our thanks to all of this nation's veterans, and look forward to a day we may all live in peace.

In recognition of the summer Solstice—not to mention the abrupt heatwave—over the weekend, it feels appropriate to share this poem, "Midsummer", by Massachusetts native William Cullen Bryant (1794-1878):
A power is on the earth and in the air,
From which the vital spirit shrinks afraid,
And shelters him in nooks of deepest shade,
From the hot steam and from the fiery glare.
Look forth upon the earth—her thousand plants
Are smitten; even the dark sun-loving maize
Faints in the field beneath the torrid blaze;
The herd beside the shaded fountain pants;
For life is driven from all the landscape brown;
The bird hath sought his tree, the snake his den,
The trout floats dead in the hot stream, and men
Drop by the sunstroke in the populous town:
As if the Day of Fire had dawned, and sent
Its deadly breath into the firmament.
2020 Grant Recipient, the Christ Church Pipe Organ Series, presents a "virtual" organ recital as part of its Midday Music series—featuring Somerset native Matthew R. Dion in a program of French and German organ classics!

Once again, our country is facing massive upheaval as we confront the realities of injustice in our communities. And, as before, people will turn to art—to express anger, to build solidarity, to find inspiration.
Is there a song the gives voice to your pain? A poem that calms your fears? We hope you'll share it below, or even leave a note telling us what is giving you hope in a difficult time.
Wishing everyone a restful, reflective Memorial Day!
The arts have always been a part of honoring those who have sacrificed for our country—what works of art (songs, paintings, poems, anything!) most capture the spirit of Memorial Day for you?
