Congratulations to Chief John Schlatz, the members of Bridgewater Fire Department Local 2611 and the Town of Bridgewater. This is a great investment in safety for residents and for the firefighters who serve them. I wish I could be there today but hope to visit soon. Limited parking will be available at the Station. Additional parking is available at the Scotland Baseball Field on Prospect Street, with a free shuttle running continuously between the field and the station. A big thank you to Bridgewater State University for providing the shuttle service!

We look forward to welcoming residents and sharing our new station with the community.

This past Sunday, I was able to be with our veterans commemorating Pearl Harbor Day. It was an honor for me to speak at the ceremony remembering the 2,403 lives lost on December 7, 1941 and honoring my friend, Bert Tremblay. The ceremony was held aboard the USS Salem and was hosted by the Quincy and Braintree Veterans Service Offices who did a great job.

It was an honor to be present for the 9/11 ceremonies in Braintree, Quincy and at the Massachusetts Fallen Firefighters Memorial. The tragic events of September 11, 2001 have had a profound effect on the families who lost loved ones and on our nation as a whole. Let us always remember.

As we close out Labor Day, I am reminded that this day should be celebrated as more than just the unoficial last day of summer. More importantly, today was a day to recognize the men and women of organized labor who have worked hard to protect the middle class, ensure a living wage, demand safe working conditions and provide a better life for families. Thank you Massachusetts AFL-CIO State Fed and all of its councils and locals for all you do for working people.
