It has been a long time since we’ve posted. Mostly that’s due to some changes coming with our social media presence.

However, it is National EMS Week. Some would say it’s a week to congratulate ourselves for the work we do, yet there are few that endure what it takes to get into this work for self aggrandizement.

EMS week can be about so many things! This year’s National EMS Week slogan is “Stronger Together.” Well, that is certainly true!

In Stowe, VT, we are fortunate to truly have togetherness when it comes to Public Service. We are also fortunate to have strong Public Safety Mutual Aid partners in our neighboring towns. But the togetherness extends to our entire community. Every person that keeps their phone where it belongs while driving, every advocate for helmets while cycling, every person that takes a CPR Course, anyone that looks in on a neighbor after a storm or during an extended power outage, every driver on the road that pulls to the right and comes to a complete stop when they see emergency lights or hears a siren, everyone that ventures into the backcountry prepared; every one of you contribute to the greater good. Thanks for being part of the team!

If you know someone that serves their community in EMS, give them a nod, say thanks. Know that they don’t do ALL they do for your thanks, for praise, for notoriety.

But when was the last time “thank you” hurt anyone?

Let this serve as a solute to all that serve, or are prepared to help.

We are Stonger Together, Happy EMS Week!

Stowe Police, Stowe Fire, and Stowe EMS, the Stowe Public Safety team, count on you having your property clearly marked with its E911 address in a location that is visible, in a way that is visible in all various conditions (day/night/snow/rain). This helps us find you when time is of the essence.

To get a reflective address number sign, visit the Town's website: www.townofstowevt.org. There you will find a form you can fill out and mail in: a sign will be made for you and delivered. Signs cost only $15.00 ($20.00 with a steel post).

These signs help us to help you.

Stowe EMS is well supported by the community; furthermore, we are very fortunate to have the support from Stowe Rescue Squad, Inc. With this support, initiatives can be undertaken that otherwise might be delayed. Stowe EMS partners with Stowe Rescue to continue improving patient care, and provide community outreach and support. Goal-oriented change is rarely about being first; most often its about trying to simply improve.

A trip to the hospital in an ambulance can be painful, but thanks in part to Stowe Emergency Medical Services, the pain of a broken bone or a sprained ankle

When you dial 9-1-1 you expect someone to show up quickly and help right?Well unless EMS groups can bring in more volunteers, and maintain a steady crew, that may not be so easy. But one Vermont town has identified some reasons for the lack of volunteers, and they're looking to remedy the situation...

A great message for our EMS friend and colleagues.

Recently, while browsing an EMS-related page, I read a post from a brand new, eager and enthusiastic EMT. “Now I gotta start saving lives,” wrote the EMT. This is my reply and reality check for all new EMTs.

Many may have already seen this ad, but it is surprising enough to really make one pay attention. When driving, please put your phone down; whatever it is that has your phone in your hand, it can wait. Is it really worth hurting yourself or someone else?
