With great sadness we share the passing of our friend and colleague, Doug Adams. After a remarkable career in the ski industry, Doug joined the museum in retirement, and it didn’t take long for him to become a beloved member of our museum family.
Everyone who spent time with Doug knew how deeply he loved skiing. We were fortunate that he chose to share that love with the Vermont Ski and Snowboard Museum, where his appreciation for the sport and its history became a gift to our staff, volunteers, members, and visitors.
While many knew Doug as one of the most respected ski tuners in the country, we knew him as a generous storyteller, an endless source of knowledge, and someone who genuinely loved being part of the museum. He found joy in the details that brought Vermont’s ski history to life. Doug loved digging through our collection of vintage ski magazines, always eager to share an article, advertisement, or photograph he had uncovered. He welcomed artifact donors with genuine curiosity, often recognizing a pair of skis or a piece of equipment and sharing the stories behind them. When it came time to research items for our annual Vintage Online Auction, what might have seemed like work to others was something Doug truly looked forward to.
Doug had a remarkable ability to make history come alive. Whether he was sharing stories with visitors, helping identify a newly donated artifact, or chatting with fellow ski enthusiasts, his excitement was contagious. His lifelong passion for skiing and preserving its history enriched our museum every day and helped create memorable experiences for countless visitors.
Doug loved this job, and we loved having him here.
His kindness, generosity, and genuine joy in sharing the sport he loved left a lasting mark on our museum and on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
A celebration of Doug’s life will be held at the Vermont Ski and Snowboard Museum on Saturday, August 29, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
