Did you help Green Up vermont today!?!?

Some of our members made some solid efforts to help clean trash and debris from the roadways in town. Thank you to our members, AND everyone throughout the state who helped continue this long-lived tradition.

With the inbound snow storm, Stowe Fire and Rescue would like to remind everyone to keep your exterior vents clean and clear of snow and ice.

Whether your home is heated by gas or wood, the exhaust of these systems can be problematic if not removed from the building properly. Even an electric clothing dryer can pose fire hazard if not vented properly.

Throughout the snowy season, we recommend you keep a 2 - 3 foot clearance around all of your homes exterior vents. Obstructions can even happen without active accumulation by way of snow drifting in the wind.

Vermont Parks and Recreation updates the statewide fire danger forecast 365 days a year. With the drier conditions and lack of early snow coverage, the fire risk has been increasing rapidly.

The town Fire Warden has placed a burning ban throughout the town of Stowe, and burn permits will not be issued again until fire danger is reduced. Please refrain from any open flames until conditions improve.

Thank you for helping to keep Stowe Safe

October is fire prevention month, and this year theme is smoke alarms. Remember to test your smoke alarms monthly and check the date of manufacture on the back. Replace any alarms that do not test correctly or is found to be older than 10 years.

Yesterday, members of the Stowe Fire and Rescue teams got to visit our friends at the Stowe Elementary School for our annual program on fire safety. Thanks to our own FF Marshall, we were able to talk about our smoke alarm safety and review our fire safety learning from recent years!

Have any questions of your own? please call the fire station and speak to a firefighter any day from 6 AM to 6 PM, or leave a message in the evening.

CALL 911 in an emergency!

Stay Safe Stowe!

When stopping in to vote at the Stowe High School, did you notice the Fire Department presence on the south side of the building. With the help of a trusted contractor, more than 12,000 feet of fire hose underwent it's annual pressure and safety testing.

As our hose ages and takes regular wear and tear or experiences some damage, the potential for failure increases. In the name of safety, and the protection of the community, failure is unacceptable.

Under the guidance of NFPA standards, hoses are pressurized to their manufacturer rating and inspected visually for leaks, tears, faulty fittings, etc. Our hoses are tested in a range from 200 to 400 PSI. Under these pressures, there is a chance that a hose catastrophically fails, or "explodes." Thankfully our hoses have been well cared for and no catastrophic failures occurred. Furthermore, only 5 sections of hose (about 175') were failed for damage and leaks.

Have questions, suggestions, or requests? Please feel free to call us at the station at (802) 253-4315, or reach any staff by e-mail which can be found on pur website https://dps.stowevt.gov/sfd/

Members of Stowe Fire and EMS were invited by our friends at Copley Woodlands senior living for a luncheon in appreciation of our continued protection of the town and its residents. This was a great opportunity to engage with our town, and for our town to engage with our members.

While we are devoted to interacting with anyone who needs us in the face of an emergency, we would much rather interact in a positive situation and environment. Our public Safety agencies strive to connect with our community in non-emergency settings, and further build on the overall culture in the Town of Stowe.

A sincere thank you to our friends at Copley Woodlands for bringing us into your homes, and your generous offer of a fresh meal! We value you engagement, and look to continue building our community connections.

Some tragic news from our fellow VT fire department to the south. The loss of a Captain with 40 years experience hurts the fire community, but it is a stiff reminder of what a firefighter can be risking on any single response.

Support this department in their time of loss and need. All respect to our fallen brother.

On June 5th, all of the Stowe Public safety departments took part in the 3rd annual Stowe and Tell at the Stowe Elementary School. This program has provided an opportunity for the towns younger population to get up close, climb in, and interact with the trucks and apparatus that we utilize for emergency situations.

Yet again, the Vermont Air National Guard were also able to drop in on the festivities with one of their helicopters and crews. We cannot thank them enough for finding the time to get involved in our community, making the event more exciting and beneficial to our younger generation.

While all members and town staff that gave their time to this event are very much appreciated, the Fire Department is proud of our Junior members who demonstrated and assisted our visitors with getting hands on with some fire hose. These members devote a lot of their time to the department, and it is a joy to see each of them develop through their time with us. Some of these juniors may join the ranks as full-fledged firefighters in the future, but even if that isn't the case, they will make fantastic leaders as they advance down their individual pathways.

Thank you again;
