We are pleased to congratulate our newest recruits, Justin Emlet and Nicholas Fine, on their successful completion of Connecticut Fire Academy Recruit class 77. A special acknowledgement is given to Recruit Justin Tomlinson from the Bristol Fire Department, this year's recipient of the Michael C Reilly Hard Charger Award. Michael C Reilly was a respected alumnus of the Connecticut Fire Academy and a member of the Stratford Fire Department before joining the Fire Department of New York (FDNY). After completing the FDNY academy on July 6, 2006, Michael was assigned to Engine Company 75 "Animal House" in the Bronx. Unfortunately, on Monday, August 27, 2006, while battling a three-alarm fire in the Bronx, Michael was killed in the line of duty. We are grateful to Retired Stratford Lt Michael Tiberio, a fellow classmate of Mike, who presents the award to each recruit class, and Jaide Fagan, Stratford's 2025 previous recipient of the award. Congratulations and welcome to Stratford!!

Today and every day, we recognize the sacrifices made by past and present firefighters who protect our community with bravery and dedication. Thank you for your service to Stratford.

Last week, a few of Stratford's bravest attended Bunnell High School's Women's Empowerment Club's fifth annual Women's Leadership Meet & Greet in honor of Women's History Month.

They met with female students and shared what it's like to be women in public safety. They were excellent representatives of our Fire Department, and no doubt inspired many of our young female students who may want to become firefighters like them one day. I want to thank them: Jaide Fagan, Jamilynn Zapata, Jennifer Long, Suzanne Gillotti, Wanda Hittinger and Tricia Wetmore for spending time with our students and for their dedication to the Stratford CT Fire Department and everything they do to keep our community safe!

I also want to thank Michelle Scatamacchia, a teacher at Bunnell, who founded the Women's Empowerment Club to boost the confidence of female students and show them all the different professions they may want to consider pursuing one day. Great job!
