Your Beautification Commission recently "beautifying" by the train station. After we were done, PW came in and mulched. Put the spot on their busy watering schedule. All natives, once established will take little effort to maintain. 🌱🦋

What does this 1942 trophy have to do with the most beautiful property on your street?

Long before Stratford had a Beautification Commission, a determined group of local women was already working to improve the appearance of the town.

Organized in 1925, the Stratford Garden Club was an independent civic organization. It was not part of Stratford’s town government. Its members planted trees, improved roadsides, encouraged attractive public and private properties, supported wildlife sanctuaries, and campaigned against the spread of billboards along Connecticut’s highways.

Their work did not go unnoticed.

In 1942, the Fairfield County Planning Association presented the Stratford Garden Club with this award for “General Improvements.” Newspaper accounts also praised the club’s tree-planting projects, roadside beautification efforts, and work to reduce the number of billboards throughout town.

These women did not wait for someone else to make Stratford more beautiful. They rolled up their sleeves and did the work themselves.

Today, the Stratford Beautification Commission is an official Town commission. But just like the original Garden Club, the goal remains familiar: encouraging pride in our neighborhoods and recognizing the people who help make Stratford a more attractive and welcoming community.

🏆 Now, speaking of awards…

Is there a Stratford home, business, organization, or property that makes you slow down and take a second look?
Let us know!
Perhaps it has beautiful landscaping, colorful flower beds, a welcoming walkway, creative fencing, artistic garden features, or simply outstanding curb appeal. Businesses too!

Please do not assume someone else has already nominated it!

Nominations close July 31.

Happy July!
Just a reminder, this month to take notice, and nominate a property that deserves some recognition for their own (or your own) beautification! Businesses too! We hardly get any nominated, but some very deserving. Curb Appeal nominations end July 31st.
