Yall gather around for a minute. There was a grass fire that turned structure fire just NE of town this afternoon. Your fire departments after deploying multiple other resources/agencies, saved a residence from being engulfed. The fire was so close to this structure that it melted the face of the electric meter off of it. The resident suffered only minor damage and the family is able to reside there tonight instead of a shelter. That is amazing work which shows the amount of training and teamwork within the department and also with surrounding agencies. WAY TO GO GUYS!!!!

The fire was able to progress rapidly due to dry/dead vegetation and other combustible items such as a camper nearby. Please take care of your tall weeds and grass and eliminate any natural fuels that a fire could consume quickly putting you and your loved ones at risk.

In closing, we want to thank the E911 dispatch center for taking a storm of radio traffic and phone calls and getting the appropriate help to the scene!

Our prayers are with his family and loved ones. As I scroll my personal feed today I’ve seen so many generations of officers comment about this man being a legend in instruction for so many years of officers who attended CLEET. He had been there for years when I attended in ‘09 and several years after that. Rest easy Vince. We have it from here sir.

With the Peach Festival kicking off early in the morning we wanted to reach out. First off is the 5k. The folks will be up way before the sun to finish late registrations starting at 5:30 am. The 5k kicks off at 6:30 am. If you’re running we ask you wear light colored clothing so passing vehicles can see you. For anyone out driving tomorrow at these times, runners will be on various streets from the school, north to the first county road, back east to Magnolia, then back towards the school. We ask that you use caution if you have to travel these streets.

The FD will be assisting with free parking in the park. We ask you to please be patient with these guys as they are volunteers helping out. These guys can tell yall tomorrow evening how it is easier to herd cats than direct traffic at an event.

Several residents in the area take pride in their yards and some have even posted signs for no parking. While we won’t be towing vehicles, it is completely legal for a property owner to call a wrecker for a vehicle parked on their property without permission!!! The vehicle owner is responsible for that bill and not the property owner by law. (This doesn’t have to be marked or posted either so use cation wherever you park!!!)

Please be safe and have a good time. All of our officers will be out and even some deputies and most likely some Lighthorse officers as well to keep everyone safe.

We have been notified of a scam that is taking place right now. The scammers are calling folks but are cloning the town hall phone number. Please use caution if you receive any of these phone calls.

Happy 250th America!!! As we prepare for firework shows and gathering around loved ones today please be safe! If you plan on participating at the city park, please be careful and pick up your trash afterwards. Usually the majority does this and we are very thankful for this.

It seems like every year the event gets larger in fireworks for this and we are thankful. It’s truly amazing the amount that you folks put into this. We are really looking forward to tonight! Thank you and be safe!

Hey everyone! This lady -- Sue Haslett -- is missing from her home north of Gaar Corner. Please call Central Dispatch if you know anything concerning her whereabouts.

Law-enforcement, first responders searching for missing county resident

Law-enforcement officers and first responders are currently searching for a missing Pontotoc County resident.
Sheriff Arnold Scott said a full-scale search is underway for 81-year-old Glenda Sue Haslett. Scott said his office was called to do a wellness check at Haslett's residence 3 miles north of Gaar Corner and she was not there.
He said Haslett's and vehicle belongings are still at the home, and there were dogs inside with no food or water. Scott said a neighbor last saw Haslett Friday, and it appeared from evidence at the home that she hadn't taken her medication since Wednesday.
Haslett, who goes by "Sue," is 5'5" tall and weighs 120 pounds. If anyone knows her whereabouts, they are asked to call Central Dispatch at (580) 332-4466.
Sheriff's deputies, Chickasaw Lighthorse Search and Rescue, Pontotoc County Emergency Management, Chickasaw Nation Emergency Management and firefighters from Vanoss and Oil Center are currently on the scene searching for Haslett.
They are on foot, riding horses and ATVs, and using drones in the search.
