Live Saving Award
Ranger Mitchel Stapleton
On June 16, 2025, Ranger Mitchel Stapleton was on patrol in Trenton when he overhead units dispatched to a male subject reportedly seizing and experiencing agonal breathing only a few minutes from his location. Ranger Stapleton advised dispatch that he would be enroute and arrived on scene within minutes, along with units from Trenton Fire Department.
Upon arrival the patient was found unresponsive, with no pulse and Ranger Stapleton quickly determined the symptoms were likely the result of an acute drug overdose. Ranger Stapleton and Fire Department personnel jumped into action and administered a dose of Narcan and began performing CPR in an attempt to start the patient’s heart. A second dose of Narcan was given along with another round of CPR, which proved successful in reviving the patient, who became responsive and alert.
It is without a doubt that Ranger Stapleton’s quick actions and commitment to training, readiness, and service saved the life of this individual. His actions represent a standard that every Maine Forest Ranger should strive to achieve, where the preservation of life is held as the highest duty to uphold. For his honorable actions, Ranger Stapleton is hereby awarded the Maine Forest Service, Forest Protection Division Life Saving Award.
