Strausstown Fire Company Community Campus

Strausstown Fire Company Community Campus Strausstown Elementary was built by the people of Strausstown Borough and Upper Tulpehocken Township in 1932. Check back often for updates!!!!!

On September 25, 1956, the Strausstown-Upper Tulpehocken School District joined the Hamburg School District. Sadly, after 76 years of being a fixture in the Borough of Strausstown with thousands of students passing through its doors, the Strausstown Elementary School closed in May 2008. After many years of being vacant, and the real threat of it being torn down resulting in a loss of the communit

y's history, the elementary school and its property is getting a second life!!! The school and property was purchased by the Strausstown Volunteer Fire Company in April of 2011 and shortly thereafter incorporated into the Strausstown Volunteer Fire Company Community Campus. The "Community Campus" received its 401c3 designation as a non-profit entity by the IRS in October 2011. The Community Campus's five founding Board Members are Charles Snyder, Gary Parker, Barry Bentz, Justin Bentz and Brian Kegerreis. The Community Campus's first set of officers were:
Scott Sechler : President
Gary Parker : Vice-President
Barry Bentz : Secretary
Anthony Moyer : Treasurer
The officers and board members of the Community Campus are working hard to improve the quality of life to the the great people of Strausstown Borough, Upper Tulpehocken Township and surrounding communities.

This morning the Strausstown Fire Company Community Campus dedicated the community history mural at the Campus in honor of Barry Miller. Barry was instrumental in the creation of the Community Campus.
Today joining Community Campus members was Barry’s wife, Karen, as well as his son, Josh.

Special thanks to Vera Breidegan for her documentation of community history to reproduce for the mural as well
as Carrie Kingsbury of Promiseland Murals for the artwork.

Today the station lights, at the Fire Company, have been draped in black to mark the untimely passing of a Friend, Benefactor and Executive Board member, Mr Barry Miller. Mr. Miller was instrumental in the creation the Strausstown Volunteer Fire Company and Community Campus, with his hard work and dedication to improve the community, into what it is today. He, along with his wife Karen, was this past year’s recipient of the “Spirit of the Fire Fighter Award” for their unwavering dedication to our organization. Everybody at the Strausstown Volunteer Fire Company and the Strausstown Volunteer Company Community Campus would like to say “Thank You” for everything and we express our condolences to the family.
