SOVFD assisted the (CCC) Community Care Club with placing flags along a two mile stretch of FM 416 in honor of Memorial Day weekend.

Some SOVFD members attended a fly fishing workshop organized by the nonprofit organization Goodfly. They aim to help first responders and veterans with stress relief by fly fishing. Yesterday’s class was filled with helpful information and fun. Thanks Goodfly!

SOVFD had a busy day yesterday, with a structure fire in the morning, a short break, and then a 200 acre grass fire later in the day. Firefighters that were able to make both calls had a 13 hour day. Big thank you to all the departments that gave mutual aid to us.

SOVFD assisted the Streetman VFD on the 18-wheeler fire today at I-45 exit ramp to FM 833. Good job on the trucker’s part for getting the rig off the main lanes of the highway!

SOVFD’s training last night was vehicle stabilization and passenger extrication.

SOVFD recently had a giveaway of various fire protection items. The 277 items given away included fire extinguishers, CO2 detectors, smoke detectors, and fire blankets. This program was funded by donations and grants from the Navarro County Electric Co-Op “Operation Round Up “, the Southern Oaks VFD Community Service Fund, and the Community Care Club.
