🚨 Strickler 🚨

If you are seeing smoke in your area, please do not be alarmed. There is a large fire around the Crawford/Washington County line just south of Devils Den. But this is currently under control by the Arkansas Foresty Department.

We could be seeing smoke from this fire into tomorrow as well but at this current time this fire holds no threat to our community.

Stay safe and remember we are under a burn ban with high fire danger conditions! Please refrain from burning!

The Fire Danger level will be very high today. Winter time has the grass and fuels in a dormant state which make them dry. The ground is still moist but the grass will be bone dry. Plus that added with high winds and warmer temperatures today will make a fire spread extremely fast. If you can please refrain from burning today and if you see any out of control brims please call 911. Everyone stay safe!

One of the biggest weapons we use in keeping our Community a Firewise Site is Controlled burning. I know there has been a lot of skepticism on controlled burning in the past due to the thought that it kills wildlife. But in fact most wildlife benefit from controlled burning. When you complete a crontrilled burn you are burning old dead leaf litter, grass, sticks that have cluttered the ground, old logs, and anything that can help spread a wildfire if it were to occur on your property. Most of the time when you have more property damage or people are hurt from wildfires. You can look back and see that the area has never been burned off. Therefore giving the fire more fuel or “food” to grow. Often times at Strickler Fire Department we will do controlled burns in late winter/ early spring. The reason we do this is because most things are still dormant and it doesn’t effect wildlife having offspring in the spring. But it also helps when springtime arrives, you will have bright green new growth and less old dead vegetation. If your interested in Strickler Fire Department doing controlled burns on your property or have any other questions about them. Feel free to reach out to us! Stay safe!
