With the rain I am sure there will be questions on burn permits. Please understand that we are in continuous burn ban that goes beyond our control until April 10th. Our entire state is in unprecedented conditions as far as fire danger, to the point that we have wildland task forces station across our state (even one stationed in Columbus). Please be kind and understand when we tell you we cannot give permits. Hopefully we will continue to get rain and return to normal. Thanks for your cooperation and understanding.

The Governor has extended the Open Burn Prohibition for two more weeks. The new termination date is 11:59 PM on April 10th.
There have been a lot of questions about how this prohibition is applied. The Executive Order specifically prohibits fire chiefs from issuing open burn permits, land management burn permits and the State Fire Marshal’s Office from issuing Training Burn permits. While the prohibition does not address contained fires like burn barrels or recreational fires, no open fires should be conducted. It is a commonsense issue. Also, Game and Parks verified that fires are not permitted on their properties until further notice.

With the current dry and warm weather we are experiencing and looking at the extended forecast we are in for an extended time where absolutely NO BURNING of any kind will be allowed, this includes fire pits. Any report of a fire of any kind will be extinguished by our fire department. Also if you are pulling a trailer, please make sure the safety chains are not dragging, and always do not discard smoking materials out of your vehicle. Due to the dry and windy conditions lately we will NOT be issuing any burn permits until we receive adequate moisture. NO burning of any kind will be allowed-this includes trash barrels. Thank you for your understanding.

Mark your calendars-we have the date set for our fire departments annual golf tournament. It will be held on Saturday, June 27th, 2026 at Ryan Hill Golf Course in Osceola, NE. More details will be coming soon.
