Monday Night Lights

Tonight JV football took us to Osceola as we took on Clarke.

The sun was high in the sky and beating down on us as the game started. There was some grumbling about how hot it was. Some even switched alliances and went to sit in the home bleachers just to find some shade. And that was just from the parents.

The kids toughed it out under some pretty hot circumstances. There were some good plays like a kickoff return for a touchdown, interceptions and even a blocked punt.

WCV came out on top 18-7.

Next week, JV football has its first home game on Tuesday, September 8th at 6pm when they take on Madrid.

Hope to see you there. And hopefully it's also under 90 degrees.

September books clubs kick off tomorrow! September's theme is September 11th and I do believe that we have a good selection of books for each grade.

For those new to book club, I have monthly book clubs at Dexter Elementary and Redfield Middle School. The book clubs run a little different at each building, but book club is completely voluntary so no pressure to any student to join or not join.

Dexter:
I drop books off at the beginning of the month in homeroom classrooms. Students are then able to sign books out and read it during free time. If a student completes the book and writes a book report by the end of the month, they are then entered into the monthly drawing for a prize!

Redfield:
Book club is held every other Thursday during that grade's lunch. Students join me in a classroom, and we eat lunch, discuss books or just life. No book report for this building because I'd probably be met with some major eye rolls and possibly a loud sigh. But snacks may or may not be involved. And, well, snacks seem to go over a lot better with middle schoolers anyways.

Any questions, let me know!

On Friday, the WCV Wildcats Football got to ring the victory bell for the first time this season with a win over Nodaway Valley, 38-0.

The night featured more than football though, with great performances by West Central Valley Football Cheerleading Squad, West Central Valley Dance Team and West Central Valley Bands. Check out their pages to see some great pictures and videos.

And we definitely can't forget the great performance put on by Wiley the Wildcat. That cat was everywhere. Taking pictures with kids, dancing with the cheerleaders and pumping up the crowd.

And mark your calendars for our next home game is on Friday, September 18th when take on Panorama for our homecoming game!

Fall sports season is underway and it never hurts to go over the spectator rules for students and adults.

We want our student to have a great experience and one of the best ways to do that, is to set a good example for everyone that is watching (especially our students that are watching and learning from adults).

Otherwise, varsity football is tonight at 7pm against Nodaway Valley.

I'll be there. And I hope you'll be there, too.

Go Wildcats!

On Saturday, August 22nd, I held a movie giveaway at the Stuart Fremont Theatre! As a bonus, I also got to eat popcorn and watch "Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie".

There were quite a few happy movie goers that left with a fun, movie themed toy playset. Enjoy the pictures of the few that I could corral!

On a side note, the biggest lesson from the movie was to never give up and just keep trying. I can't find fault with that. However, I can find fault with Mayor Humdinger and his kitties and all ruckus they caused. I also don't recommend trying to mine diamonds with dynamite on a island of dinosaurs (say that five times fast). It just causes problems and gets you in trouble.

And, yes, that's my official movie review. Two paws way up.

Happy first day of school, Wildcats!

This is year eight for me at West Central Valley Schools and I'm excited for a new school year to begin! Lets see those first day of school pictures!

PS: Yes, I cheated. This is last year's picture. I'll see if I can get an updated one today. The donut lunchbox hasn't changed though.

The Night Before the First Day of School

'Twas the night before school, and all through the town,
Every Wildcat was stirring, laying outfits out now.
Backpacks were stuffed, Chromebooks on charge,
Parents praying that coffee comes large.

The teachers were ready, their rooms looking neat,
With bulletin boards finished (some just this week).
The principals were pacing, rehearing their lines,
And yes, don't forget, watch those new parking signs.

When out on the streets there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my cruiser to see whats the matter.
The buses were rolling, the stop arms held high,
"Slow down!" I reminded, "Your SRO is nearby!"

I'll guard all the crosswalks, I'll patrol every hall,
I'll wave at the buses, I'll answer your call.
I may joke and I kid, but here's what is true,
Keeping Wildcats safe is what I love to do.

So, set all your alarms, don't miss that first bell,
It's a brand new school year, I know it'll go well.
And if morning drop off leaves you in distress,
Just smile, wave and remember, that we've got this!

Books & Badges celebrated the start of the Iowa State Fair by bringing the farm to downtown Stuart on Thursday, August 6th at the Public Library! I started inside the library by reading a Dr. Seuss classic, "Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You?" and then giving away two carts of new books. We then went outside and visited with some farm animals with member of West Central Valley FFA. Kids got a close up look and were able to pet a duck, variety of chickens, sheep and a calf. This ends the big Books & Badges programs for the summer, since school is starting soon! Books & Badges will be back in September though, so stay tuned for that date!
