Transportation is more than just a ride. ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’™

Each month, United Way of Martin County President & CEO Carol G. Houwaart-Diez contributes to Friends & Neighbors Martin County, sharing insights from a nonprofit perspective on the issues impacting our community.

In her August article, Carol highlights what happens when something many of us take for granted โ€” reliable transportation โ€” suddenly disappears.

When two grants funding the Martin Community Coach transportation program ended unexpectedly without replacement, residents were suddenly faced with impossible choices: miss work, delay critical medical treatments, cancel therapy appointments or absorb transportation costs they simply couldnโ€™t afford to maintain.

For Henry, that challenge became painfully real one morning โ€” and his story shows why access to reliable transportation can mean the difference between independence and isolation.

A heartfelt thank you to 100 Women Who Care of the Treasure Coast for their incredible support of Ride United! ๐Ÿ’™

During a recent meeting, United Way was randomly selected as one of three local nonprofits to present a program in need of funding. Cher Fisher, our Emergency Management & Volunteer Coordinator, shared how Ride United connects neighbors to employment, medical appointments, grocery stores, and other essential destinations when transportation is a barrier.

After hearing all three presentations, the members voted to support Ride United. That support came to life when Carolynn Strom stopped by to present a check for $4,100.43 and counting!

Thank you to Carolynn and every member of 100 Women Who Care of the Treasure Coast for investing in a program that helps keep our neighbors connected, independent, and moving forward. Every ride makes a difference. ๐Ÿ’™

Christmas in July may be over... but holiday planning never stops!๐ŸŽ„๐Ÿšฒ

Believe it or not, we've already purchased more than 50 bicycles and 480 helmets for this year's upcoming Holiday Project!

By shopping early, we're able to take advantage of seasonal sales and stretch every donor dollar even further. AND thanks to CubeSmart's generous storage sponsorship, we have a safe place to store these early purchases and donations until the Holiday Project officially kicks off.

It's partnerships like this that help us prepare well in advance so we're ready to serve hundreds of local families when the holidays arrive.

A special thank you to Ralph and Roxanne at CubeSmart for helping make it all possible. โค๏ธ

Our community has shown up in a big way for our Super Shredder, Alicia! ๐Ÿ’™

Since sharing her shredding service, dozens of local businesses and residents have dropped off documents for Alicia to shred. Her parents, AnnDee and Ed, have also made several pickup runs for those unable to visit our office โ€” even traveling as far as Jupiter to collect items from Ms. Lisa Como, director of Montessori School in Jupiter!

For Alicia and her family, this opportunity means so much more than shredding paper. It gives her the chance to be part of a team, contribute to her community, build confidence, and continue growing her independence week after week. Seeing so many people rally around her has been incredibly meaningful to their family, and every box of documents dropped off is another reminder of what can happen when a community comes together.

Thank you to every business, organization, and resident who has stepped up to support Alicia. Your kindness and encouragement have meant more than you know.

If you or someone you know is looking for no-cost shredding services, drop off your documents at our office Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., or contact us to coordinate a pickup.

Community partnerships create community impact.

Our new United Way billboard has found a fitting home alongside Seacoast Bank, a company that has long been committed to strengthening Martin County.

As our Financial Stability Impact Sponsor and our #2 Most Generous Workplace campaign, Seacoast doesn't just give โ€” they volunteer, advocate, and show up for our neighbors year after year. From board leadership and campaign chairing to Citizens Review Panels, corporate sponsorships, volunteer service projects, and countless other ways they step up, Seacoast continues to lead by example.

Thank you for helping us spread the word that help is available. Together, we're making sure more people know where to turn when they need support.

Collaboration is at the heart of creating stronger communities! ๐Ÿ’™

We were proud to join Children's Services Council of Martin County and other agencies at the Back to School Bash to support local Martin County children and families as they prepare for a successful school year.

When organizations work together, our impact grows. Thank you to the Children's Services Council of Martin County for being a valued partner in ensuring every child has the opportunity to thrive, not just today, but everyday in Martin County. Thank you to the Martin County School District for hosting this event! Collaboration at its best!

Together, we're building a stronger Martin Countyโ€”because partnerships matter, and children matter. ๐Ÿ“š๐ŸŽ’
