If you haven't heard, we did suddenly lose former Chairwoman Lynne Bogle last week from medical complications. Rae Lynne Finch Bogle, 67, of Critz, VA passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2026. She was born on August 29, 1958, in Iowa. Lynne served in the United States Air Force for 20 years and retired while working under the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

After moving to Patrick County, Lynne became deeply involved in local politics and community service. She dedicated five years to the Patrick County Republican Committee, serving as Chairman of the Patrick County Committee also as Vice Chair of the 9th Republican District, and the Republican State Central Committee.

She is survived by her husband, James W. Bogle; daughter, Becca Davis; and her niece, Tammy Baker (Michael) and her family.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Norris Funeral Services, Stuart Chapel with Pastor Andy Nickelston officiating. Inurnment will be held at Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery at a later date.

Patrick County is accepting applications to fill a vacancy on the Board of Supervisors for the Smith River District.

The remaining board members will appoint a qualified voter from the district to serve until the special election on Nov. 3, 2026, which will determine who completes the remainder of the term through Dec. 31, 2029.

Officials said the position requires filing a Statement of Economic Interest and taking an oath of office, and applicants may be called for interviews before an appointment is made.
