This episode is also a perfect fit for this week’s focus in our five-week hurricane preparedness campaign: Build a Kit. 🧰

✈️ From humble beginnings to a $1.3 billion economic impact — Witham Field has a story worth celebrating!

On National Aviation Day, we’re honoring the history and impact of Martin County’s Witham Field.

The airport was founded in 1928 as Krueger Field. In 1942, the airport was leased to the United States Navy, and in 1943, it was renamed Witham Field after Martin County native Paul “Homer” Witham.

Today, Witham Field is a General Aviation airport and a self-supporting enterprise fund, meaning no local tax dollars are used for its operations. With the opening of a U.S. Customs and Border Protection facility in 2019—the first intermodal clearance facility on the Treasure Coast—international travelers arriving in Martin County via aircraft and marine vessels can clear customs locally.

And its impact reaches far beyond the runway.

📈 $1.3 billion in economic output
👷 6,858 jobs

Come explore the history, operations and people behind this important community asset. Learn more and schedule a tour at https://bit.ly/WithamFieldTour!

From its early days carrying air mail to its role as an economic engine for our community, Witham Field continues to help Martin County take flight. ✈️

Happy National Aviation Day!
