🌱 RESTORING SEAGRASS, RESTORING OUR LAGOON 🌊 Martin County Environmental Resources Division, in partnership with nonprofit Ecosphere Restoration Institute and AquaTech LLC, is continuing efforts to restore vital seagrass habitat in the Indian River Lagoon through a statewide initiative funded by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.

This week, AquaTech is planting approximately 2 acres of Thalassia testudinum (turtle grass) in southern Martin County as part of a larger project to restore up to 100 acres of seagrass throughout the lagoon.

Healthy seagrass meadows are essential to the Indian River Lagoon, helping improve water quality, stabilize sediments, provide habitat for fish and wildlife, and strengthen the lagoon’s long-term resilience.

🚴‍♂️ RIDE THE TRAILS, KNOW THE RULES 🚴‍♂️ New signs are now posted at Halpatiokee Regional Park to help riders navigate the park's mountain bike trail E-bike policy.

Under Florida law, Class 1 E-bikes are considered bicycles and are welcome on the trail. Class 2 and Class 3 E-bikes are prohibited on the Halpatiokee Mountain Bike Trail in accordance with park rules.

Not sure what class your E-bike falls under? The new signs break down each classification so you can ride with confidence before you hit the dirt.

🚧👣 Sidewalk Project Nearing Completion 👣🚧 Construction is almost done on the new sidewalk along SE Avalon Drive between SE Cove Road and SE Salerno Road. The project included drainage upgrades, roadside grading improvements, and installation of a new six foot wide sidewalk to provide a safer route for pedestrians.

These improvements help make neighborhoods more connected, accessible, and resilient for years to come.
