USS Constitution: History & the 1812 Marine Guard
Thursday, November 12 - 6:30pm

This presentation will focus on the history of the USS Constitution as well as weaponry, clothing, and uniforms of the period.

Henry Rodrigues, of Historic Marine Education, has served as President of the corporation since 2018. He is currently serving in the role of Captain of the Marine Detachment aboard USS Constitution. Henry is a retired US Navy Chief Petty Officer, having served for 24 years including a tour of duty aboard USS Constitution. He will be joined by Laura McCarthy who will present on the textiles.

Historic Marine Education, Inc. is an all-volunteer, educational, 501(c)3 corporation headquartered at the oldest Marine barracks in the United States, located in the Charlestown Navy Yard – Boston, Massachusetts. Their primary mission is to educate the public about all aspects of early 19th century life with a particular focus on maritime heritage and the U.S. Marines.

Kids, ages 7 to 12, are invited to join us for a fall themed paint night. Together, we will work through a step-by-step painting tutorial. No prior experience required. All supplies will be provided and kids will take their finished masterpieces home with them.

Please note: to ensure we have plenty of time to paint, we will be starting right at 6:00pm. Please arrive on time to ensure your child doesn't miss any of the steps. Thank you!

You all know we love our book birthdays and we can't wait to celebrate Amityville Awakens with horror author Robert Ottone! The book will have just come out on October 6th so we will make sure we don't run into spoilers. We are sure there will be plenty to chat about. Robert is joined by Lauren Bolger for a conversation about his new book, his process, and whatever other horror-ific things they'd like to chat about. This session covers Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (GSM) in full: what it is, the symptoms people don't always connect to menopause, and the long-term effects on your health and s*x life if it goes unaddressed. We'll spend real time on treatment options, including an in-depth, myth-busting look at vaginal estrogen and its safety. Expect a mix of lecture and open discussion, with plenty of room for your questions. We had such a great time chatting with author Shannon McKenna Schmidt earlier this year to discuss Lady Bird Johnson, we just had to have her back! This time she will be discussing her book, "The First Lady of World War II: Eleanor Roosevelt's Daring Journey to the Frontlines and Back" - the first book to tell the full story of Eleanor Roosevelt's unprecedented and courageous trip to the Pacific Theater during World War II. We'll discuss how the trip impacted the war effort, Eleanor, and the world. It's guaranteed to be a fascinating conversation and we hope you can join us for it!

We always have such a blast with author Jeremy D'Entremont on his talks about haunted lighthouses, that we just had to have him back! He's working on a 4.0 program just for us! Even more stories, even more ghosts, even more sightings - just more!

Lighthouses and ghost stories often seem to go hand in hand. In the past, Jeremy has discussed the lovelorn spirit known as Ernie at Connecticut's New London Ledge Light and the piano playing ghost of Maine's Seguin Light. There is the mysterious Woman in White in the Isles of Shoals and the spirit of a drowned lighthouse keeper at Penfield Reef in Connecticut. This time, who knows what fascinating and haunting tales Jeremy will share.
