It’s here…we are ONE DAY AWAY from the season opening of the Door County Granary!!! ⌛

Over the past 4 days, we’ve shared 4 distinct ways to become a thread woven into the tapestry of Door County history. Our final option is a biggie…

Option #5 is VISIT!

What better way to get a feel for Door County history than to literally step into it? The Granary is truly a one-of-a-kind space and you can’t truly appreciate it until you experience it. Starting TOMORROW, the Granary will be open 10am-3pm, Wednesday to Sunday through October. Entry is FREE and the building is easily accessible by car, foot, or even boat at a prime location (72 E. Locust Ct.). Come learn how a grain elevator works, marvel at architecture that has survived 125 years and a move across the channel, and enjoy scenic views of the waterfront. Don’t just trust us – see for yourself what all the fuss is about. And once you’re hooked, come back and revisit the other 4 ways you can support the Granary and play a key role in preserving the unique character and history of charming Door County! 🌞

Can you feel it?! Only 2 days remain until the Door County Granary opens for the season! 🌞

We’ve already shared 3 incredible, easy ways you can champion Sturgeon Bay’s legacy, but believe it or not, there’s still 2 to go!

Option #4 is SHARE!

If there’s one thing we’ve learned on the journey to save the Granary, it’s that we have power in numbers. With so many scenic stops and commendable causes in Door County, it can be tough to stand out. Spreading the word about the last interpreted wooden grain elevator remaining on the Great Lakes helps us attract visitors, volunteers, and donations. So go ahead and hit that “Share” button, bring a friend to your next drop-in at the Granary, or just tell someone new about the great work being done on Sturgeon Bay’s West Waterfront. When it comes to telling this place’s stories, we truly believe that the more, the merrier!

The historic Door County Granary opens for the season on Wednesday, May 13. Open hours continue through October, Wednesday - Sunday, 10 AM - 3 PM. Visit to explore the only restored grain elevator on the Great Lakes and learn its significance to Door County's agricultural economy.

This is the last week to experience La Dallman Architects's Granary exhibit "Shifting Reuse and Repair," a part of the SHIFT: Architecture in Times of Radical Change exhibition at the Chicago Cultural Center. Nicole FINALLY made it last weekend and couldn't help but share some insight with visitors touring the space. LA DALLMAN created a fragment of a nearly to scale grain bin that exists in the upper levels of the Door County Granary. Excerpt from the exhibit's narrative: "This installation contemplates emerging, quasi-preservation strategies to transform derelict buildings." Free admission to the exhibition through February 28.

How cool would it be if we can bring the exhibit to Sturgeon Bay?!

Can't make it to the Chicago Cultural Center? You can find the telescoping model that accompanies the exhibit right here at the Door County Granary. We open for the season on May 13 but until then you can view the Granary's Raymond F. and Eleanor A. Pesch Granary Restoration Fund Telescoping Model through the windows along the Granary's waterfront terrace. The model explains the various levels of the historic Teweles & Brandeis Grain Elevator and the proposed design to provide public access to the building's main exhibit inside the upper levels of the 1901 grain elevator.
