The Door County ADRC will again be the local agency coordinating the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP). The SFMNP offers low income older adults an opportunity to purchase fresh, locally grown fruits, vegetables, and herbs from certified farmers. This year’s process will look a little different than in years past, but we are excited to still be able to offer this incredible program. Beginning June 8th, call the ADRC of Door County at (920) 746-2372 if you’re a Door County resident over the age of 60 and a staff member will assist you with the application over the phone. At that time one of our staff will help you navigate our new process and how pick up will work.

ADRC @ Home: Chair Yoga

Time: Tuesdays at 1:00pm throughout the month of June (1st Class Starts Tuesday, June 2nd)

Cost: Suggested $3.00 donation per class

Please call: (920)746-2372 to pre-register and get help with any virtual technology set-up and questions

Want to improve your posture and breathing? …Restore and maintain your mobility and balance? …Increase mental, physical and spiritual awareness? …Have fun? Then this class is for YOU!

CHAIR YOGA is ideal for those who do not want to, or are unable to, get down to the floor on a traditional yoga mat. Using the chair for support, the postures will be presented in a slow, clear and manageable way in order for the participant to comfortably and confidently connect with the mind and body. As you practice traditional yoga poses adapted to a chair, you can focus more closely on breathing, mindfulness, flexibility and balance.

Enjoy ALL the benefits of a regular yoga practice in a safe, encouraging atmosphere and from the comfort of your own home.

As we have been staying at home more than usual these days you probably have had a chance to talk to your kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews or other loved ones about things that you did in the past where technology was not involved. Have you talk to them about your favorite activities as a kid? Did you prefer to ride a bicycle, play team sports, play a favorite game, or read a book while sitting in a tree? What are some of your favorite past time activities you did as a kid?

During the month of May we want to celebrate older American month by Making Your Mark, and we want you to share your stories with us.
Stories build community and connect us even when we can’t be physically together. Recalling adventures with childhood friends, that family weekend at the beach, a teacher who helped guide your life, or how you learned you would become a grandparent—all of those stories connect you with your past and the people who have mattered along the way. They help people you love get to know you better and feel closer to you. Looking back at how we got through other tough times can help us manage this challenging time. Sharing what we love about our friends and family members helps them feel stronger and more connected.
Stories can be told over the phone, on the computer, over the backyard fence. They can be told in letters, in pictures, in headlines and photographs collected from newspapers. We don’t have to be together to share our stories and build each other up. We can make a mark on people’s lives with the stories we share.
Think about the stories that make up your life. Which ones would you like to share? Please take a minute to share some stories with us.
*What are the best and worst pieces of advice you’ve received?
*What’s your hidden talent?
*What are you most proud of?
*Looking back, is there something you wish you had done that you did not?
*What do you most admire about your best friend?
*What do you wish the world knew about you?
*Was there a time when an older adult helped you feel strong in a tough time?
*What does it mean to be a caregiver? What did you learn from the experience?

The most effective way of preventing community spread of the coronavirus is to maintain social distancing and stay home whenever possible. For caregivers with folks depending on them, this is a difficult ask. Follow these tips for caregiving as safely as possible:
*Wear clean clothes to home visits
*Wear a mask and ask the person you're caring for to wear a mask
*Wash your hands upon arriving and throughout your visit
*Avoid touching your face
*Wear gloves but make sure to change them and wash hands between tasks
*Do not visit if you have a fever or new cold or flu symptoms
